Hi Mardatha
Good luck with your jam venture!
There is a thread - jam making help for first timer, and I will merge this for you later
Also is jam easy to make? Sterilising jam jars , making jam in a microwave , home made rhubarb jam and jam from frozen fruit should also offer some help and suggestion
There are other smaller and older threads. To search do the following.
Go to the top right and click "search this forum and then advanced search ". This brings up a new screen. In the keyword box (top left), type in "jam", and ensure the drop down below it is set to "titles only". Scroll down to the bottom where it says "search now", click it and you will see 7 pages of jam threads:j
thanks

I've often wondered what to do about the jars that are plastic coated inside - I tried heating these once & the plastic all burnt! Did I heat them at too high a temperature do you think, or should I only use non-plastic coated ones?

One last question - does using jam sugar make it taste like shop jam ? Or does it still taste home made ?0

When my dear mum made strawberry jam many moons ago, late 5o`s early 60`s, she used to put in a couple of cooking apples with the berries to get it to set. Not many lemons about then as I recall.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

It's the pectin in the sugar which helps it set. You can also use lemon juice and normal sugar. Let me search for you
