Is it not possible to cancel your cooker from Studio?
A 5 L one will give you a working capacity of about 3 1/2 litres. You could always fill a large pan with 3 1/2 L of water to see how much that is. Bear in mind that everything will cook down so when your pot is full in the morning, it will look emptier by the time you open it for tea. It also depends on how much you eat. If your kids are small they'll only get bigger and therefore eat more. And what will cook a lot will cook a little, remember.0 -
I hadn't thought of cancelling. I think between us we do eat quite a lot. My other half eats double portions, my 5yo has a good apetite as do the 13 and 15yos so maybe a bigger one would be a better plan.
Thanks0 -
I really think 5l will be enough capacity for 5 - mine is MUCH smaller - 2.5l - and is more than adequate for the 4 of us (bearing in mind that we don't cook roasts in it)0

this morning I have skinned and boned the turkey leg which I cooked overnight in my slocooker (had to bash it about a bit to get it in), and have prepared a "left overs" ratatouille - some squidgy cherry tomatoes, a sprouty onion, a bendy courgette, a perfect yellow pepper and two tins of (dented) tomatoes. I've added three cloves of garlic, a good shake of paprika and a slug of worcestershire sauce. I am hopping about now wanting it to work its magic.
yum! who wants to come over for supper?
when I've hoiked the ratatouille out I am gonna do a chilli or spag bol (I've already cooked the mince) probably spag as I have mushies and carrots that need using up
I seriously want an additional slo cooker - I think this one has bascially been on 24 hours for the past week whilst I make stuff for the freezerBlah0 -
Thanks Trow, perhaps it will be big enough then. TBH we are all a bit fussy so what I'll probably end up doing is cooking several different meals over a few days, using a couple of portions and freezing the rest so we can all have something healthy that we like. Don't think it will really be big enough for soup though cos when I make that I make a huge panful and it is gone in five minutes flat!0

I finally received my slow-cooker at 4pm yesterday (delivered by a woman in a car!) and I have today's dinner cooking away in it right now
A half leg of lamb and veggies, using Jamie O's five hour lamb recipe (p174 Return of Naked chef, or I'll post recipe if anyone wants it) as I thought that would convert well to the slow-cooker as it's a slow cooked dish anyway
There should be plenty left-over to turn into a nice soup too. Will let you all know how it turns out!"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

The Antony Worrall Thompson slow cooker ( http://!!!!!!.com/6qckj ) is rated at 160watts, guess thats for the High setting.0 -

I am well impressed with my new slow-cooker
Ok, I've only made one meal in it so far but it was absolutely delicious! Not only that, but it seems to have gone much further than normal too. I used a small (800g) half leg of lamb and cooked it with veggies (carrots, spuds, parsnip, celery, onions) and some added streaky bacon bits. We've already had a meal (for 2) from it yesterday and there's enough left for another meal tonight (with home-made giant yorkshires) as well as turning the rest into a hearty soup for the freezer
Usually a piece of lamb that size when roasted conventionally would only last for one meal, with perhaps enough left for a couple of sandwiches, but cooking it this way meant every last scrap of meat fell from the bones and none was wasted!"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"
