hi friend asked me to sort out his think pad everything was working then had it off the mains for a bit and it said please charge quickly otherwise will lose everything. i put it back on mains and now all i have is a black screen. there is a fan working and its warm there. also the on off button isnt working and on the side it has the quarter moon light on is this sleep mode? i ve pressed all the buttons but cant get any action from the computer nothing seems to work.

maybe your friend bought a duff one, try taking the battery out or holding the on/off switch down for 6 secs,
Sounds like maybe the psu is faulty, or the battery charging circuit or battery is duff if it doesn't charge.

Put the mains back in, then press the ON switch on the side. That'll wake it up again

Sorry, just seen you've said the on button doesn't work
Two options. Ctrl-Alt-Del to see if it will restart.
Remove the battery, then restart as normal.0 -

there is power but that's all there is0 -
have you tried pressing FN and the key (probably f1-f12) with a picture of a monitor on it as it may be in an extenal display mode0

all that happens is that i can hear a fan and light comes on. nothing seems to want to kick it into gear on start up 0 -

Had this happen to me .
Its trying to boot up using a floppy disc!! Even tho there is not one in the drive, try flipping the eject buttons for the floppy drive. cannot hurt to give it a try. Switch it off and try again.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0
