Mr.B is a cheese addict, but he is also lazy, DH is quite lazy, hence the using up of XYZ in a sandwich. He can't see how it could be turned into a meal.
Or don't make tea- serve beans on toast to the kids Scrambled eggs or dippy eggs are our emergency tea! and tell him that was all they can have cos dad has eaten what was in for tea... They are well happy having a tea like that, they think it's a treat!

Will happily crack on with some maths but you have lost me.
Thank you firefox, you are working impressively hard on behalf of bob and shirley's health
It must be catching cos I've read your post a few times and I'm still a bit fuzzy, but this is because you are much more well read than me about all this and so I'm floundering a bit!
In a nutshell, do we need then to keep the bob and shirley planner to providing the O3 through oily fish in terms of 'Bang for our buck'? That's what I'm kinda surmising from what you've said

I think so: really the ground linseed is acting as a supplement since it isn't going to add anything taste wise.I therefore looked at fish oil capsules in Asda and they have 60 caps for £3, two packs would contain enough omega-3 for the family for a month but that is 6% of your budget and there is no actual food!
I think we need 48g of omega-3 from fish oils per month (3g per person per week), though that doesn't account for one site suggesting men and teenage boys need twice as much as us ladies .... but hopefully portion sizes will account for that?
6g in a 418g tin of pink salmon so we'd need eight cans at £1.55 = £12.40
3g in a 120g tin of Smartprice sardines so we'd need sixteen cans at 34p = £5.44
8g in a 425g tin of Glenryk pilchards so we'd need six cans at 65p = £3.90
Might be fourteen cans of Smartprice sardines at £4.66 as I have had to guesstimate the omega-3 content from similar products. Pink salmon and pilchards are calculated from my stock so are accurate. There is 255g of fish (60%) in a tin of pilchards so six cans can comfortably do six family meals and perhaps two lunches as well knowing you!!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Thanks for the tips! I just keep at it. I tend to try and swipe everything and ram it in the freezer now. Or only leave defrosting stuff out now. Or mix the meat with the veggies so it looks like a meal already. Or get it all in the s/c the evening before, put the dish in the fridge and shove it on in the morning.
Ah i see you have kids who aren't fussy and dad is the selfish one here then....Same in my household. So i hesitate to suggest, making them something they don't like in order to make hubby feel guilty or think about his actions.
So a couple more ideas to throw into the pot.
Would it be worth making savoury snacks for him?
Cheese straws, sausage rolls, pancakes, soups which can be easily heated?
Or, making up some sandwiches and saying, I made you a snack..therefore circumventing him nabbing the other things?
I like some of your ideas/solutions though.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -

firefox - thank you for all the nutrional guidance. I've always thought my family has a healthy diet but I confess i've never deeply considered the colours we eat or the omega 3 / 6 content...but now I'm obsessed - cue lots of beetroot/blackberries appearing as we weren't eating much purple.
glad to know Pure spread is good for the omegas as DD2 eats that. I'll be saving some of the sardine recipes as my daughters have suddenly discovered they love tinned sardines.weaving through the chaos...0 -
firefox, I'm just trying to rejig the planner to accomodate the fish but keep shirley's cooking less onerous in the week, keep a roast on sunday etc etc and sometimes the twice a weekness of the oily fish is quite close together, ie both tuesday and weds. Is that a problem do you think?

Any chance of adding the pilchards to a lunch e.g. a little in the calzone pizza and a little in a hummus or spread? So it isn't so much of a big deal? I think beans on toast with pilchards sounds like a good tea
Weezl, I hope you are looking after yourself, you are working so hard on here and then have a job, a husband, a baby, a (presumably) big bump... Very impressive but think you need to have some time to relax too, no-one will mind if this thread slows down, we'll all still be in here talking nonsense and sharing recipes and ideas, no rush eh?
Hello to everyone elseGod is good, all the time
