I was wondering whether the apples could come outa the fruit "ration" for the month? - or is it too small to allow for any "transferring over"?

yep, there's none left unless the family have dry toast for breakfast rather than the appley curd spread :)

...also they'd be having an 18p snack in a day, so that'd be their breakfast and lunch allowance and no other snacks. So it'd literally be one piece of the carrot cake with apple and dinner but no pudding in a whole day. I think it would be way too few calories sadly, sorry! :)

  • My thought about the apples was that it would be a way to use up any that got beyond being good to eat, rather than them going to waste. I think aiming for nil waste is probably where they are at, but sometimes an apple is beyond eating raw and is only fit for cooking. Maybe it's a further chapter later in the book "rescue recipes and using up leftovers" :-D

Oh, and apple sauce here in recipes means the lump free sort, which means you can also boil up the cores and sieve out the inedible bits, thereby getting the most from your past it apples. HTH
Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.

:T:T:T that's exactly what the apple curd does too, isn't it fab!

I think I was going to turn it into the spread straight away to prevent waste/accidental snacking.

I think that was the general consensus a bit earlier, but I might have just read what I wanted to hear! ;)

sorry Ceridwen and QOS, I've realised I've probably not been very clear!

The budget is so tight that I don't know if we'll get all the essentials in:eek::eek:, and so all suggestions for the meal planner (not for our own fun and recipe enjoyment, please proceed with that as normal :)) but suggestions for Bob and Shirley have to be about going cheaper, not more expensive.

I think I hadn't spelt that out very well and confused you all, sorry :):o

Justa a leetle query here - when you say "bag of cauliflower" - do you mean fresh or frozen and what is the weight of it purlease?

I'm trying to mentally translate a "bag of cauliflower" into how big a cauliflower that means...thinks "Think she means a small-ish cauli??"

...and 'twould be good to specify (for t'benefit of the skim-readers) that by "mustard" we mean "mustard powder".

sorry, it's everything of the current asda list in post 1, so it's this frozen Cauli bag:

and this mustard, unless I can lose 50p from somewhere and reinstate the colman's powder.
