Basic stuff question

Options
At the top right of the screen, is a small narrow box where I enter words. Depending whichever search engine is set to default, it is that search engine which provides the reply. A drop down arrow allows me to use other search engines. What is that box known as because it is that one that provides suggestions that I want to stop.

    Hi
As far as I know that box is just known as the 'search engine'.
Like you said, you can choose which search engine gets used each time.

    Edit
I suppose some people might refer to it as the 'search bar'.

  • Hi,

I would think it's called the search bar also, I use Google, and next the icon is a small arrow, if you click it and go to manage search engines, untick ' Show search suggestions'.
  • With Firefox you right click and untick "show suggestions".

and that Grahawk is what I wanted to do right from the start. Maybe it is because I failed to say Firefox that no-one picked up on the right clic thing.

and Frugal, there is no Show search suggestions to be found using IE, only Find on this page ornd more providers ornge search defaults.

Show suggestions: tick/untick - although this problem does look endemic for some users (not myself and I do use Windows 7 too).

Also, click on drop-down arrow, Manage search engines, untick Show search suggestions...just mentioning other ideas here, although - I repeat - from reading the posts here the prob does look endemic for some! (see below).

    If so, open Internet Explorer.

Top Right of window click Tools Menus

Find Suggested sites and if they are working it will be "Checked/Ticked"

Just click on it to uncheck it and that will turn Suggested Sites off.

I think thats what you mean

    Hi there Islandman,

Please can you confirm IE version for me. But in 8.0 and 7.0 that Suggested Sites option should be available to switch.

If not let me know and I will investigate a little further.
