Switching to A+L Premier Current Account

I have finally rec'd some details of my acct today throught the post!
1 week after the online process was started by me.... and only after visiting my branch last Saturday to make a complaint about the lack of information I was receiving with regard to said transfer!!
Call me a cynic, but I do not feel the transfer of my salary/DD's/SO's will go through without any hiccups!!0 -
I would just make the point that only you can actually close your previous account. The most A&L can do is provide you will a letter for you to send to your old bank requesting account closure. In case things don't go well, it might be a good idea to keep your previous current account open for the time being.

I have received a PIN a few days ago and a stmt today (confirming my chq deposit of £501 - which was paid in on 22/12/09!!). Seems they are a bit slow in sennding out stmts compared to Halifax.
I checked my online acct details and again was surprised how long a transaction takes to show online with A & L as well.
Anyway, my 1st week salary has also gone in, but still no news on transferring all my SO/DD's over.......0 -
DD's and SO's STILL not transferred across :mad::mad:
Received a letter from A & L yesterday (dated 06/01/10!!) saying my bank (Halifax) had still not provided the info req'd.
Rang HALIFAX last night and they told me info request rec'd on 05/01/10 and info sent to A & L 06/01/10!!!
What the hell are those muppets at A & L playing at??? Rang the branch today (twice) and still not had a return call to confirm if the info has been rec'd and actioned.
A & L are bloody hopeless!!!0 -

DD's and SO's STILL not transferred across
It did take A&L about a month to get started on moving my DDs but then it all went smoothly apart from one which, I suspect, was NOT down to A&L.
I am finding that A&L are, as you suggest, well on the slow side in all things, their FPS is limited to only £250 (on "single immediate payments" only) and their "Customer Service" is definitely pants.
On the bright side, I got my £100 about 10 weeks after applying for the account. :T It may well finish up costing that much to wind the account up when I reach exasperation point.
I haven't closed my previous current account and don't intend to.

I did this last year I had a First Direct account as my main account, and I switched it to an A&L account to take advantage of the £100 reward and free OD which I matched with my FD £1000 OD. It all went really well they were pretty efficient and you tell them which DD's and standing orders you want transferring. I opted to inform my employer myself as it was easier for me to do it, rather than relying on them and I checked that it wasn't part of the terms and conditions to get the free £100. It all went well until I received a letter after a couple of months saying that I hadn't qualified for the £100 because I hadn't transferred all my direct debits with their switching service within 11 weeks! In fact it had all completed within 8 weeks. So I wrote them a very stern letter with photocopies of all my statements and the letters they had sent me confirming my account was open highlighting that I did qualify and added some extra comments about how disappointed I was with them, that it must have been a scam and that I would close my account if this is the way they treat their new customers blah blah blah... Within a week I had £100 credited to my account and a letter apologising and informing me of the credit! So watch out for this!! I still have my FD account open, because I think they're a great bank and so I use this to move money about, and mainly if I need to pay money in because there's a HSBC paying in machine near where I live and no A&L's!0

It is a condition of the offer that you have to move all your DDs to qualify for the £100 incentive.
If you pick and choose you don't get the £100.

Exact same happened to me, trying to fob us out of the £100.
Find A&L a god awful bank though, so I'm in the middle of switching in the opposite direction, from A&L to First Direct
May just keep it open and deposit the £500 a month for the free annual travel insurance....but the £250 and one payment per recipient per day limits may just put me off that too!Debts at LBM (May '08) £5760 - Lloyds CC £4260, Lloyds OD £1500;Debts as of May 28th 2011:Santander CC: £0.00Lloyds OD : £0.00DFW Nerd #1247 - Proudly dealt with my DebtsOlympic 2012 Challenge #12

So I wrote them a very stern letter . . .
In my (limited) experience, a letter to their Group Customer Services seems to get their attention and get things done. But you have to start with their Customer Services and follow up with their "Let's Work It Out" joke - they just seem to repeat the company line and I suppose their purpose is to put you off pursuing any complaint.
I think the primary goal of their complaints procedure is to get you to make them a fortune on their 0844 number.
