The SOGA is not a warranty or guarentee. It is a statutory right.
Warranties are supplied by manufacturers entirely independently of the SOGA on the whole. A warranty is barely ever linked to the SOGA or retailer although they sometimes act as intermediaries.
Again terms applied by manufacturers do not need to meet the SOGa as they are not bound by it - unless their the retailer too - it would only be the retailer who cant invoke terms against the SOGA.
People need to remember to differentiate between any warranties and the SOGA.0 -

Perhaps you should read and comprehend what I said. I referred to the retailer, NOT the manufacturer and...................

OP has damaged his headphones albeit accidentally - not clear whether the OP told the full story re: Sennheiser but giving them the benefit of doubt, Sennheiser (goodwill) offered to repair (I'm amazaed they offer to this under the 2y "whats 'em ma' call it" . Sennheiser not obliged to do anything anyway unless their 2y "whats 'em ma' call it" covers accidental - unlikely
No one has said these are actually fake, Sennheiser simply cite this as a reason for only dealing with authorised retailers, i.e. those they supply direct.
The OP has no leg to stand on at all (but we love the debate anyway)

Me too. Alhough the OP's question has been answered, I'm still trying to get it straight for myself. I think it goes like this.
There's a difference between rights under SOGA and rights under a manufacturer's warranty/guarantee, but it's not a dictionary difference.
Under the SOGA, retailers are bound by a kind of guarantee, the terms of which are set and enforced by a third party -- the state.
Manufacturers' warranties (if offered) are also a kind of guarantee, but one in which the terms are set and enforced by the same body that offers the warranty -- the manufacturer.
A retailer's own returns policies (if offered) are also a guarantee in which the terms are set and enforced by the same body that offers the warranty -- the retailer.
The retailer is responsible for meeting the SOGA obligations, and (under contract law) for fulfilling its own returns policies. But manufacturers' warranties seem to be a grey area -- sometimes the customer has to go through the retailer, sometimes the customer can deal directly with the manufacturer. Confusing.

I think you have to take a look at the definition of each word:
Guarantee - a promise that something will happen/is true/etc
Warranty - a statement claiming that something will happen/is true/etc
