Hi there. I only have 3 settings on my Morphy Richards SC. Those being LOW, MEDIUM AND HIGH.

When I cook a chicken overnight for Sunday lunch I usually put it in with a couple of tablespoons of water and set the cooker to low. The next morning I remove a large amount of the liquid that the chicken has given off (makes great gravy) and leave it on low for another couple of hours. I guess in total I leave the chicken on low for about 12-14 hours. I know this seems excessive and would probably find the chicken done after just the overnight amount of time.

I havent really used any other setting to be honest but I do intend to try the medium setting as opposed to the Low one.

The chicken though is to die for!! It falls off the bone and is lush.

  • Having read all the great recipes and ideas on this site, I bought my first SC last week and tried a beef in ale (Delia) recipe- the meat was really tender, am looking forward to trying ribs in a sweet and sour sauce- planning to cook that on Saturday night!

  • Hi Emma, have to admit this will be the first time I've tried ribs in a SC but apparently you can do it!

Put about 1 and a half lbs of spareribs in the SC with a little vegetable oil, a chopped garlic clove and some chopped ginger, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, some stock, a few tablespoons of rice vinegar (I don't have any of this so will probably try it with balsamic vinegar)and a few tablespoons of soy sauce. Add 1 teaspoon of corn flour dissolved in water, to thicken the sauce.

I will cook this on low for around 6 hours. I'm going to have it with rice and maybe some pak choi.

Did a chicken in the cooker with some water, melt in the mouth fantabulous. Favourite meal is my bean stew.

Cook a ham shank overnight or till meat falls off the bone, remove meat and chop, add presoaked and preboiled mix of beans( kidney, haricot and any others that are lurking inthe cupboard) celery, onion, carrot, cabbage and a veggie stock cube cook for 4 hours (ish) add pepper, you dont often need salt and serve. This recipe responds well to adding anything you have leftover. Just add homemade bread and you have a great meal. Freezes well too.

  • Just had slow cooked ribs in sweet and sour sauce- they were gorgeous, amazingly tender, and a lovely sauce with it. I had to guess the amounts as the original recipe is American and uses cups but it worked out fine!
