Hi
How do you get a guest account (for long term file storage) on an ftp server if you're not part of an organization or college/uni?

Not really sure what you are trying to do to be honest. I think you are mixing up terminology.
What are you trying to do?0 -

If you want a guest account ask the network administrator....
You aint gonna get one any other way...To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -
Hi robt
I don't mean a web-hosting site or a file-sharing site or a photo-sharing site.
Some organizations and educational places allow their members, staff, students etc access to an FTP site where they can store their files.
Then other people can log in anonymously to access them.
This is just an example here:- example

You usually have to email the administrator and they will supply you with the account details or the details will be posted on the site.
Example Uploads of software and other files related to genealogy are welcome. Please contact ftp@genhomepage.com to arrange to upload software.0 -

I know what one is, but you are highly unlikely to get one, thats why I asked for clarification, which you still did not give.0 -
You'd have to tell us what server you are trying to access, policy is dictated by the system admins, so the process could be anything really.
in the old days of file sharing there were loads of silly ways to control access etc.
IF you want a server like that its a bit of a pain because anon-ftp requires a dedicated IP address for that server, a few web hosts support it but it can be a pricy addition.0 -

Yes, that's true. I've got one of those already.superscaper wrote: »Any webhosting account usually has ftp access.
But what about about my original question?Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0
