Welcome to the coupon gang, SandDancer! Print a copy of the coupon policy for Tesco (on the 1st post of this thread), show it to the checkout supervisor and ask if the store honour the National coupon policy, if he/she says yes away you go shopping, if they say no then ask what the store policy is.Murphy knows me too well and sticks to me like glue!0

I have several T stores within driving distance.
Only 1 accepts MOC, the others decline MOC unless you buy the product.
Is there any way of swinging these stores around to accepting the national policy?0 -

Pretty much do as Sher60 says above 'Print a copy of the coupon policy for Tesco (on the 1st post of this thread), show it to the checkout supervisor and ask if the store honour the National coupon policy'.
The only thing I would say differently to Sher60 is that I NEVER ask 'what is your policy in this store then?' I think it gives them the green light to say whatever they want to make up on the day. If a store says 'no, we only allow one coupon' then I would ask if you could speak to a Duty Manager as you can't understand why there's a national policy if stores don't know it?
BTW, the above approach can be seen - understandably - as quite a confrontational thing for a customer to say so you have to tread very, very carefully and appear very friendly and polite the whole time, in case the DM decides you are a troublemaker and starts to argue with you. Don't rise to anyone who tries to argue about the policy.
Final answer is for you to write (yes, snail mail) to the Store Manager by name (he/she is not the same person as the Duty Manager, you won't get the SM come down to the CS desk usually). Enclose the coupon policy wording & query (but don't complain) about why the store isn't following it and saying how embarrassed you have been trying to use a few coupons.
All the above worked for me at my two local stores. I take the view that the Store Manager's decision is final. The other staff's decision is not (although they like to think it is).
Oh, and never, never, never bother to ring Dundee or email them about the coupon policy. They either don't know or understand which coupons you are talking about, or they hate the policy and all couponers, or they side with the store. All in all it's a lose-lose situation for you so not worth bothering with. Even worse, it would also also highlight the 'coupon issue' at Dundee yet again, because AFAIK they log their calls and discuss how to reduce call traffic on common areas of complaint/query (as any call centre does).
Us couponers don't want coupons logged as a common query at that level - in case Dundee Call Centre recommend that their HO do something stupid like change the policy...! Always keep your query re coupons instore, but don't be afraid to write to the head honcho there if you want a final decision and feel you have nothing to lose.

Great advice CM. Grand Prix coverage on now so my brainstorming letter ( have you one of those up your sleeve too
) will have to wait but I appreciate the effort you went to & agree that popping it on the front page would be very worthwhile.

OK, don't pretend to have been emailed this policy, that would be silly because it isn't true, as veggiecar says.
When I spoke to Duty managers at my local stores (2 of them) I said something like, 'look, here's the policy, this version comes from an open, public forum because it was the easiest place for a customer to find the information. It is the current policy but if you want to check it out I can understand that'.
In my local, a couple of staff members DID know the policy when they saw my printed version so they knew I hadn't made it up. My copied & pasted version did not contain any MSE posts - but one staff member said 'oh do you go on MSE then?' and I cheerfully said 'yes, it's a great forum'. No-one criticised me for doing so, I am not saying they all liked it but it's not something you have to lie about. The only thing I wouldn't tell them, if asked, is my username!
You have no reason to feel embarrassed or apologetic just because you know a Tesco policy which has been in the public domain for 2 years. IMHO, they should feel embarrassed because they don't know it!
FWIW, the wording shown was sent out to all stores in a CSM (Customer Service Manager) Daily Update in June 2007. Since then it has been reconfirmed in updates a couple of times I think, but has NEVER changed. If they tell you it has, they are wrong.
Many stores still have it in their policies book at the CS desk, but plenty of other stores don't because they never noticed the Update 2 years ago. It could be up to you to educate them! Just be aware that the Store Manager has the final decision and could still say no (I would not have taken it any further if that had happened to me, I would have just voted with my feet and shopped somewhere cheaper or used my coupons at Waitrose).PRIVATE 'PCN'? ok, thank you, the store i go to only opened this year so i don't know what they will have in their CS folder..
If this is a national policy, how come all Tesco's don't have to obide by it??
I've never used more than 4 coupons, i'm scared to hand over any more..0 -
