So OH had done some initial checks then I looked after work for replacement fridge to fit the space etc. Eventually opted for one via Boots (of all people), used TopCashBack plus Boots card to help a little with the purchase
I discovered Boots Kitchen Appliances a few years ago and, like you, was surprised! However I've bought a fridge freezer & an oven off them since. Excellent service - on both occasions they phoned as promised about 30 minutes away so no need to stay in waiting for them. Cashback is always nice, and great to see the points added to your card in a week or two.
Don't want to alarm you...... but aren't things supposed to come in threes  (I realise my washing machine will now blow up....)A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Surely Mrs Stuart being poorly was number one gally and therefore with the oven and fridge comes to the three?
Only good things to happen from now on I hope for the Stuart familyCurrently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

You forgot the car costs I incurred in January too.....
Hoping this is now the end of such "unforeseen" events! Credit card bill should have run last night so fridge should not be on it until next month
Good news on the mortgage is that we incurred the grand sum of £9.43 interest for the past month, which is the lowest ever.
In addition, as Funds ISAs (S&S ISAs) are improving in terms of loss position, our net position is well and truly in the black at the moment which is reassuring.0 -

The Boots TopCashBack has tracked and confirmed extremely quickly, so should get that in May or so.
An interesting point is that we have received significant cashback on Teleflorist, over £6 on a £35 arrangement, which has to be the highest % we've earnt on anything via TBC, certainly an incentive to use them again!0 -
Hi Staurt,
When you are business travel it might be worth signing up to hotel loyalty schemes. Some of these schemes can give extremely generous discounts....just a thought:D
Hope your DW is getting better.

Yes, you can get good deals; whilst work insist on the bookings I can usually outside UK get a reasonable hotel (especially if clients can get reduced rates) from a major chain. So I have Marriott, Starwood and Priority Club cards (at least) some I use to get their own points (like Marriott) others top up my frequent flyer membership with Continental. Even thought of the Marriott credit card, but it would likely only give us two nights a year free, but will look again at that.

Hi all, just back from Atlanta from a business trip. Travel was economy as always for my employer and overnight flight was entirely full.... very tiring and couldn't sleep . Hope to catch up on your threads over the weekend.
Meanwhile some MSE news:
1) TopCashBack monies just come payable £9.64 from Next. We had to chase this as it initially went to £0 when we returned one item. A few nudges needed but eventually we have it available today. There's about £18 more to come and I see a Play purchase worked (previous failures are because they were Play trade I think) and the massive £6.12 on £34.95 arrangement sent by Teleflorist, which has to be one of the highest % cashbacks
OH is switched on to TCB so we hope to improve on our payments in future.
2) Funds, checking the FT site you can see the global maps for main markets worldwide http://markets.ft.com/markets/overview.asp just click on the macro map icon. Things have been positive in many markets for the past month and certainly our Funds ISAs are recovering at the moment to "just" a 36% loss. "Keep the faith, keep buying those units cheap; Keep the faith, keep buying those units cheap....." although it is by no means certain that we won't see a drop again in the next couple of months.....
3) Now the really good news. My pay went in today and it means we are now offset to 99.50% today giving an effective interest rate of 0.16% :j:j:j:j:j:j:j
Obviously this is a "month best position" as bills are paid and credit card, but in combination with the improved ISA Funds' position means we are nicely net positive at the moment.
NatWest just sent the quarterly mortgage statement and with the base£450 per month it predicts paying off in November 2012 (3yrs 7mnths early), excluding offset benefit, which added to the saving made via OP in the early years of mortgage gives about 6yrs 11mnths early on 25yrs. However, as you know we hope to clear it this October. It remains a tough target especially in meeting our savings targets and I must remember the £225 sealing fee to add to the cost too!0 -
Welcome back Stuart, you have been missed.
