Can I Convert My Halifax Current Account To A Reward Account Easily?

I have a Halifax current account (think it was the "High Interest Current Account")

Does anyone know if I can convert it into the new Halifax Reward Current Account but keep the same sort code & account number?

I went into the branch the other day and it was converted for me. I had a short wait to see someone and then it was done in 3 minutes. I was able to keep the same sort code and account number.
  • I upgraded mines online. On the account summary page within your online banking, theres a 'take me to' drop down menu. In there you'll find the option to upgrade, takes 1 min and you don't even have to visit the branch. I assume I kept the same numbers, as I didn't have to change any DD's or transfers.

I used the call back service, and it was done in 2 mins from when the phone rang!

I think the "upgrade" option only refers to the "Ultimate Reward" account whch charges £12 per month.

Done in branch, took a few minutes, get to keep same sort code, account number, card, standing orders etc ... no hassle!

As far as I know that's true.

Other threads state that you have to phone or go into the branch to change to the Reward account.

It's termed 're-designate' .... rather than upgrade. You have to move a HICA to Reward either on 'phone or via Branch .... you can't do it online. If you re-designate it keeps the same Sort Code / Account Number and therefore cheque book / DC / DDs / SOs etc remain undisturbed.

Answered many times on the multitude of threads on the Current Account forum! ;)

I have a Halifax High Interest Account.
What happens to that now I wonder. Does it stay as it is?

Just a quick word or 2 of warning about this new Reward current account.

If you have a tendency to go overdrawn..even its an agreed overdraft, they no longer charge you interest on your overdraft. Instead they charge a flat rate fee of, wait for it, £1 for each day you are overdrawn. If its not an agreed overdraft, then the daily fee is higher, and higher still if its over £2500 I think.

This new account can be costly unless you stay in the black all the time.
