They will have a record of you in their system (unless account closed more than 6 years ago). Why don't you try and see what happens?
  • If you do decide to try you will be credit scored even for a cash account.
Might be better first to go into a branch and see if they can find you on their systems - if not you may be ok.

I thought basic bank accounts are not credit scored. Or is credit scoring only done for LTSB basic bank accounts? So I assume a customer could get declined for a basic bank account with them, even though the customer didn't meet the ideal 'score' or have no credit history.

I only heard that banks who offer basic bank accounts either do one or more of the following:
    • credit 'check' to see if there are any defaults, CCJs, bankrupt, etc...
    • ID/address check
  • Lloyds TSB will credit checked you for a full current account and if you do not pass the the check they will offer you there basic account which comes with a visa debit card. However Lloyds TSB do report the account as a full current account on your credit file.

  • I would call them and ask before you apply so you know where you stand I have that account and it is okay. However you can only use Lloyds TSB cash machines and the staff are very snotty with you because if you have this account it means you have bad credit.
  • When you say you owed them money, do you mean as in you had a loan with them, or that you'd defaulted on debts or missed payments and such?

I would recommend you to open a basic bank account elsewhere, due to the face that the LTSB basic bank account debit card can be used at their machines only.

Refer to this link for basic bank accouunts: http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf

....................And in Post Offices and anywhere you see a Visa sign for purchases (and if the shop offers it) cashback.

Yes, of course that as well. Forgot to mention that.

Out of curiosity, are there any plans for removing the restriction for withdrawing cash from only LTSB machines? Would a lot of customers view on this view will force the bank to change it's decision?
