don't know any bargain photographers, but one that I have heard good things about is Lisa Jeffries - will pm you her no.

She advertised in the Loughton Newsletter last year and a number of local have used her for various photos.

Try negotiating, you never know your luck

    OMG
I Look fabulous, my haircut is brilliant. Not bad for £3.
The young lady that cut my hair works in Hairlines in Bletchley and her name is Charlotte. This her final year at MK college for her 'qualification' and I cannot recommend her highly enough.<shameless plug> although I dunno what the prices are like in Hairlines. I got loads of advice on how to look after my hair and scalp and was offered a scalp treatment as well - I will probably go back for that one as I think it might help me.
Downside - Although appointment was for 13:15, I asked at reception how long it might take they said _should_ be done by 2:15. It was nearer 3:15 when I got out!!! I was sad that I didn't have any money to tip her with, I rummaged around in my bag but i only had £10 note (for DS#1 lunch money - forgot to give to teacher this morning:doh: ).
luckily it was 'quiet' at work today so I slunk back by 3.30 and prayed no one saw me.
I think maybe next time I will book an appointment for after 11am then maybe I will be finished by 2pm :rotfl:
Good expereince though. Anyone had a beauty treatment at MK college? if you have what did you have done and how long was your appointment?
just in case you need to know:

I am looking to do a boot sale in the summer and wondered whether the MK Bowl one is any good? I mean....what time do you have to arrive, are you hassled before you even set up?; etc. OR....does anyone know of anywhere else that does a regular one so that I can go have a look round before comitting myself? :happylove

MK Bowl tends to be full of traders rather than normal car booters. Went there once, not much takers. Better one is in Potterspury on the A5 behind the Super Sausage Cafe. Not sure when starting back up. Advertises to start at 2pm - ignore this most people start arriving at 9am and there are always loads of people there even that early. Been to this one a few times and sold loads

Anyway, my better half and I are looking to get married next year and have followed many of the tips in the money-saving wedding threads. The one area we're struggling in is the photographer. Can't for the life of me justify paying someone £1000 for what amounts to about 8 hours work and an album with about 40 piccys. I know they have overheads, insurance etc...but surely there's a chepaer way??

    Many thanks

We didn't bother, got family and friends to take them. It helps if you have people who are reasonable photographers of course, but its a thought.
    Highest debt - £24500

    Current debt - £0 !!!! :)

  • We didn't bother with photographers either, friends and family took pictures and sent them to us on CD - R's and then i could go and get them printed, choose what sizes etc. I have 2 Albums full with lovely natural pictures - worked really well.

Good luck with your wedding tocadast

Super Sausage car boot was good for us as MK Bowl was 5am start for a good pitch, think it was just before official start time at Super and was selling stuff right up to the end.Check it out the week before you do yours, might even pick a bargain!

    Hi to all you Milton-Keynes-type-peoples!

How great is it to have a board dedicated to our fair 'city'?

This is so great, it is now officially my new fave board. Thanks to everyone who has posted so far, this will be very useful, there is always so much going on in good 'ole MK.

Thanks especially to fannyadams, I was so excited when I saw the prices at the MK college hair& beauty, I mean 50p for a temporary colour! That is just crazy...you know I pay £60 at Toni&Guy for a colour (not very MSE like I know), but thanks to your rec I am going to give it a go - I will def have a beauty treatment too and I will report back. I think I will also try the restaurant there and will also report back on that.

I wish I could give some MK-type tip, but I can't think of anything right now!

Ahhhhhhhh I just thought of something...

If you go to Cineworld (the cinema) a lot this will be useful to you: Cineworld took over UGC a couple of months ago and because of that you can use your UGC unlimited card (now called the cineworld unlimited card) in cineworld in MK (and all round the country). Most people don't know about this because cineworld in Milton keynes don't sell the cards and don't advertise them BUT the cineworld (formally UGC) in Northampton and Bedford DO set-up the cards. So watcha need to do is take a little trip to Northampton or Bedford, with a utility bill and I.D, they will give you a temp card, a proper one will come through the post and you pay £10.99 per month and you can see any film at any time for free! So in terms of cineworld in MK you only need to go 1.5 times per month to make this worthwhile! Me and hubbie go at least once a week so this saves us tonnes, plus it means we watch films that we wouldn't normally wanna try, and sometimes those films turn out to be the best. For more info on the cards go to the cineworld site and click on the link to the UGC cinema site, UGC will tell you all about the card.

    It is the best!!!

Anyway I've gone on long enough... hope that helps someone!

  • Thanks for the info about Cineworld - I thought it was just in London, I might well have a go !
  • I forgot to say in the above post , that I have partaken of the beauty treatments at Bletchley College many times - mainly for waxing .It is excellent , the only downside is the length of time it takes, but if you compare with salon prices it more than makes up for it. Off the top of my head (so don't quote me on it!) Lip wax £2, Chin wax £2 ,underarm £3, full leg and bikini £12 ,1/2 leg £4, manicure £5 ish , and I'd love to try reflexology £8 - bargain! One I'd recommend is the deluxe pedicure with paraffin wax wrap(either £6 or £8), my feet were lovely after that !!
