Hi, reading this post with interest. We switched to Ebico a few months ago and so far so good. Although we are a family, we are comparative low energy users in both gas and elec, and will be using even less over the coming months due to the hikes.
We are saving just over £30 per month on our previous direct debits (we stupidly didn't have dual fuel with our previous suppliers, simply because we couldn't decide who to switch to - in the end it wasn't either of them).
The cost of energy per kw does seem to be a lot cheaper than other companies and they don't put their prices up as often.
So, at the moment, we are quids in and the saving of £360 will go into our holiday fund! :j0 -
Ebico are not the cheapest, even with standard tariffs, for example with electricity
Scottish power AFTER price increases pay by direct debit.
TIER 1 14.769 inc vat, tier 1 ceiling 900
TIER 2 09.089
Based on average 3000 kwh, yorkshire region.
Total = £323.79
Ebico current prices (PRIOR to possible increase)
11.31 inc vat
Based on average 3000 kwh, yorkshire region
Total = £339.30
Scottish Power AFTER increases pay by direct debit (discounted energy 3% off rates)
Tier 1 14.326 inc vat, ceiling 900
Tier 2 08.816 inc vat
Based on average 3000 kwh, yorkshire region
Total = £314
Scottish Power AFTER price increases pay by quarter cash / cheque
Tier 1 17.236 inc vat, ceiling 900
Tier 2 10.665 inc vat
Based on average 3000 kwh, yorkshire region
Total = £379.09
As for gas, it is a well known fact at around the 17,000 kwh mark which is just less than average use, ebico are not cheap and do become more expensive. Ebico are cheap on gas if you are a low user around 10,000 kwh to 13,000 kwh.
As a general point, nothing to do with ebico, everyone should move away from their home supplier, ebico is a good first step for most, without going into too much detail / calculations that can confuse most. Once you are more aware of useage, providers, rates / tariffs and calculating them, then everyone can decide if they can get a better deal elsewhere. As I said, ebico is a good first step for most, to just get away from their home supplier.For example my home supplier would charge £470 for the above, so ebico was a good first step away to make an initial drastic saving which would suit most, but then there are better deals out there once you have established comparing and calculating to the final step / choice in energy provider in saving on gas / electricity. Unfortunately though with regular price changes, you would have to constantly switch very often to get the best deals. Eventually it may be less hassle to come to a compromise and stay with your final choice / step energy company, rather than save an extra £20 to £40 a year from a very slightly better deal.
If you are fortunate enough and in the minority to understand / calculate and compare the tariffs / bills, and had never switched, then you could just miss out ebico as a first step, and consider ebico with the rest of the energy providers as a final step / move away from your home supplier. But, most people do not move / switch from their home supplier, as there is a general feel that they are all as bad as each other and of course having the task of calculating / comparing. What people must do is switch away from their home supplier, as the savings are generally quite drastic.
Something else that I have noticed, in general, energy providers have good deals on one of the energies and the other is expensive. Of course they entice you with duel fuel discounts or reduced duel fuel tariffs. But you can generally save more by having 2 different suppliers, one for electric, and one for the gas. For example, above SP are very good rates for the electric, but the gas for the yorkshire region is very expensive indeed. Of course they offer duel fuel discounts, but I can save more just having the electric with them and gas with ebico. I am a low user on gas and so benefit from ebico, but of course can get the electric cheaper. Ebico is competative and fair on both energies, but of course there are cheaper deals out there. If ebico should increase their prices, then they may not be as competative.

We are a not-for-profit energy company, but due to wholesale gas and electricity prices (a graph showing these increase can be seen my clicking here) we unfortunately will have to increase out prices. We will still remain competitive and the fairest tariffs on the market.

We will be having a price increase in the near future our managers in discussions about the rise at the moment. We will still be competitively low.
This confirms that I will need to switch at least electricity, and possibly the gas.

1) Apart from online tariffs, Ebico is currently the cheapest provider in ALL regions based on average usages of 19000kWh for gas and 3500kWh for electricity.
2) They are not move expensive that others supplies, they just don't give you special offers and discounts so might appear to be more.
3) Currently, an average Prepayment Meter customer who has never switched (with British Gas and the Local Electricity Distribution Company) can save as much as £450 by switching to Ebico.
1) Marketing speak. We all know Ebico have yet to put up their prices, so I'm assuming you won't be able to claim this when they do (I can't imagine them waiting much longer to increase prices).
2) A puzzling statement, tbh. Are you saying an energy company's discount for paying by DD shouldn't be used in the equation?Similarly, a dual fuel discount?
3) More or less confirms my long held view of Ebico - that they are great for people who pay by 'less popular' ways and/or VERY low users. For anyone else, and once their prices have increased in line with the other suppliers, there are far better deals out there.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
This tabloid inspired 'greedy utility companies' cry is repeated time and time again.
The Daily Wail is at it again today ! The article is about the boss man at BG getting a pay rise, the story is a hoot - the comments are even more over the top !! You would think that he, personally, had exterminated all the first-born !0 -

Average gas bills at the moment is probably around the £700 mark.
Based on a usage of 19,000 (rough average) with Ebico the bill would be £543.. So still competitive!Ebico worker0 -
Scottish Power's Tier 1 cap is 900 kWh per annum or 225 kWh per quarter. I know 'cause my quarterly usage is 227 kWhs!0
