Yes, but will be painfully slow (usb2 is up to 40 times faster than usb1) - best bet is to budget for a usb2 card for your pc.
Following on from this ... a USB2 card can be bought for under £10 and, assuming you are running windows XP, it is a worthwhile investment. If you are running windows 98 make sure that it is compatible and that you get a driver.

To the person that asked the dimensions it is 117(W) x 35(L) x 206.5(H)mm and weighs just over 1kg. It also only contains a single 320Gb disk drive (I would assume 2 double sided platters of 80Gb per side)

Is a usb 2 card easy to fit and where can i buy? If it is under a tenner, it sounds like a worthwhile investment.

Same as any other card - take the back off, slot the card in etc.. As Ivan said, things can be a bit tricky with Win98 (little chance with original release, things a bit better with Win98SE), but ME and later should be ok. CCL do cards for around a fiver (plus postage etc) - http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=940&category_id=139

After a quick research, it seems to be a Western Digital, casing is slightly different but same spec ....

Yes, it's a western digital inside. Very nice casing on it with a snazzy blue led that flashes purpley. Works no problem with win 2000 and xp. Works on USB 1.1 but I didn't really try it for long on there.

I think PC World are being a bit optimistic at £229 but at £114 I don't think you could buy the bare drive a case and the cables online and build it yourself. Cheapest external 320gig or similar I can see.

I have been looking out for a cheap 250gig one but I do like buying pc bits from a real shop so this is just the job.
