Regarding all these 'cult classic' products such as Touche Eclat etc. I think what's happening is we believe all the claims made by the manufacturers because we desperately WANT to believe them. Then when we get them home we're either really disappointed that they don't do what they say they're going to do and are appalled that we wasted so much money, OR, which is probably more common, we think to ourselves- 'the product MUST be good, since it was so expensive and so many people rave about it', and we actually convince ourselves that the product is as good as its claims. Then we actually JOIN IN with all the people saying how marvellous it is, thereby perpetuating the 'cult' following of all these products and persuading more people to buy them.

I think it's all psychology, and there are probably a few people at the top of these companies laughing at us poor women and getting very rich at our expense.

    God, I'm cynical, aren't I?!...
  • Boots fragrance free eye make-up remover lotion.

This has just changed bottle shape and is part of the essentials range. I found out about it on here a few years ago and have been using it ever since! Its £1 something and frequently on 3 for 2 which is when I buy it!

Does the job perfectly - why pay more?
  • Years ago I used to make a cheap toner by buying rose water from the chemist (I bought a brown bottle and the chemist refilled it each time just charging for the rose water). I then bought a bottle of witch hazel and mixed the 2 together in a third bottle. You can control how astringent the toner is by adding more or less witch hazel.

Not sure whether you can buy rose water in this way these days but it used to be very cost effective.

I'm sure Olay must have a customer care line you can phone (have a look on the bottle- they're usually freephone numbers)- you may get a quicker answer than waiting for a reply to your email.

Interesting thread :D I can not live without dove night hand cream (in fact my eczema prone skin pretty much loves anything dove) and Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream- I swear this stuff is a small miracle and even though expensive, it last absolutely ages! Also can't leave the house without my Collection 2000 plastique lip gloss- by far the nicest I have tried and not sticky either.

I was in France recently and bought some Nivea tinted instant radiance...it is lovely and was cheap (around £6) but have never seen Nivea cosmetics here in the UK. Has anyone else?

Now I just need to find somthing to tame my frizz prone coloured hair. I seem to have tried everything and it is being very badly behaved at the moment...any tips?

aimee21j - my frizzy hair loves Pantene ProV for curly hair...

Apparently whipped shea butter is also great as an intensive hair conditioner, as well as fab for the skin - cheap on ebay just type in 'whipped shea' and see for yourself. I am just finishing my Crabtree & Evelyn chamomile body lotion (which is lovely, but not cheap, I got it as a gift) and then will try the whipped shea which my dry skin loves...

Thank you EagerLearner! I will definately give the pantene a go next. My hair seems to like the clairol stuff from the hairdressers but i'm not spending the best part of £20 on shampoo and conditioner! I do have problems (and my hairdresser is baffled too!) with broken hair on the top of my head...it can stick up and nothing I do can smooth them down.

Also, forgot to mention before, i'm looking for something effective and affordable to make the dark circles under my eyes go away....no amount of sleep seems to have any effect!
