Sept/Oct flights - Y so expensive?

I have the luxury of being able to travel outside of school holidays (at last!).
Been looking at a few flights - mostly long haul and they seem very expensive in Sept/Oct compared to e.g. May/june.
Just wondered why this might be?

    hang fire!

Leave it until 2-4 weeks b4 & leave your choice of destinations open-best bargains for accom will be dominican republic, mexico (riviera maya & cancun) & possibly cuba-jamaica/barbados does not reduce too much.

Keep checking any web-sites & when cost is £300 pp or less you can get a great deal-for a 3*+ in Dom Rep with flights at £300pp a package would cost approx £600-£650 inc private taxi.

    I'd hang fire!
