Tesco nappies - should i complain?

Hey.. Last week i went to do the 4 weekly shop for the kids (child benefit day)

I noticed i could save £3 on each large packs of tesco nappies compared to pampers which i normally get.. i get 4 packs of nappies (2 kids under 2) so i was happy with the saving i would be making as it could go on new clothes or something for the kids.

Anyways, since i have been using the nappies, my girls have come out in terrible nappy rash.. they have had this for 3 days now, and im using nappy cream on them at every change but its still not getting better.

I have gone out today and bought some pampers, so i am hoping the rash will settle soon.

im not really the complaining type, but seeing my girls in pain and being very uncomfortable, i really feel like i should, but i don't want to be wasting my time if nothing will be done about it.

Would you complain?????

Thanks for your time

  • Does the packet say they contain lotion - some disposable nappies have lotion built into the linings.

Unless the nappies are faulty then it may be a case of bad luck and it is due to change in brand and materials that have upset your girls' skin.

Is there any sort of tesco promise or money back guarantee on the packets?

My daughter is usually in Tesco own brand nappies but she has never had nappy rash at all.

I do flit between Pampers and Huggies if either are on really good offers, but she's never suffered nappy rash problems with either of those nappies.
Here I go again on my own....

I would complain. It costs you nothing and it lets them know that there could be a problem with their brand nappies. You never know it cold become fruitful.

  • yes i would complain but i doubt it is the nappies - phone your health visitor in the morning - mine used tesco nappies all the time and nappy rash came and went as expected really - we used different types of cream as well as sudocream - are they old enough to run about without a nappy for a while - this definitely helps

  • We used Tescos "purple pack" nappies when our son was little and found them to be the best over pampers and huggies, especially at night.

I personally wouldnt complain, the nappy rash may have nothing to do with the nappies. Just switch back if you believe it is the nappy causing it.

I've used products in the past that dont suit me - the pampers nappy tags gave me a rash when touched but its not pampers fault that my skin didnt like their product.
  • I highly recommend bepanthen nappy cream to get rid of the rash its excellent stuff it can clear it up in a day most of the time.

I'd go complain, I'd say its quite likely their skin just doesnt like the materials tesco nappies are made from. If you've still got some unopened packs, even without the receipt they'll let you exchange them for pampers nappies. But Id take the started pack as well, just to see if they'll let you exchange that pack too. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. My DD used to get nappy rash all the time, made no difference to what I used, but using tesco own make nappy cream used to clear it up in a day. Which is why Id be suspicious that it is the nappies.
  • Hi.. thanks for the replies.

I did spot a "if not satisfied, refund or replacement" lable on the back of the packs, so i took back the unopened packs this morning.. i was able to exchange them for pampers, even without the receipt.. i still have 2 opened packs, i suppose i could keep them and they can use them on their dolls when they are a bit older.

I am using sudocrem on the girls, i have heard good reveiws about bepanthen so i might grab some tomorrow.
  • Hi Nikki,

Also consider Metanium cream - its excellent. But use it sparingly, you only need a very thin layer so you can see the skin underneath and the idea is that it drys thus forming a complete barrier to wee etc.

I used to buy Tesco and lots of Mums I know rave about them, maybe you were just unlucky. Maybe being a bit cheeky but if their policy is to replace, try taking in opened packets and ask to swop them for the cream (Tesco sells Metanium cream) and then it wouldnt cost you any more! Worth a try in my opinion!

    Good luck

This one of the reasons I use cloth nappies! There are countless chemicals in all the mainstream brands.
