My Mum (who's 75) loved the Andrew Lloyd Webber series Any Dream Will Do and really wanted to see Lee Mead as Joseph.
In early August she booked 2 tickets for the show, coach travel and 1 night's accommodation with Travelstyle for late January 2008.
She paid a deposit at the time and then the balance at the end of November.
Travelstyle wrote to her on 12th December to say they had 'operational difficulties' and couldn't get the tickets to the show.
They offered her a number of alternative shows - which she wasn't interested in - as well as Any Dream Will Do in May 2008.
I checked on the internet and Lee is on holiday on the alternative date they offered.
Mum only wants to see Lee Mead.
She's having a full refund but for heaven's sake, why did they take her money but not book the tickets at the time she paid her deposit?
She's so disappointed to miss the show, especially as some of her friends booked with a different company after she booked with Travelstyle and there doesn't seem to be a problem with their arrangements.
I've bought her the Lee Mead CD as an extra Christmas present (thanks Amazon for getting it to me on time), but .....
Travelstyle - shame on you for letting an old lady down.

Cant see that they are members of Abta.In their t &c s ,for holidays for example they say they reserve the right to cancel a Holiday with only SEVEN days notice,if they havent made up their numbers.. dont think I would want to go with any company that stated that.(I dont know if this is normal for coach operators).
Not getting tickets at such a late stage is inexcusable,i would ask them exactly how this has been allowed to happen.Where did she see the ad? Have you thought of writing a letter to the venue,or the local press in that area-might get them some free publicity and your Mum a ticket..just a thought:rudolf:0 -
Thanks, hollydays - I think it's pretty poor too.
Mum & Dad have been on a few holidays with this company, weekends and Turkey & Tinsel etc.
They are quite good value.
I did ask why this had happened but didn't really get a satisfactory answer, just that they couldn't get hold of tickets and 'that it didn't happen very often'.
As no amount of fuss would make the theatre break happen, Mum just wanted to draw a line under it and get her money back.
The problem about getting tickets is that we'd then have to book travel and hotel seperately and as Mum is 75 and Dad is 79, I think they'd find negotiating across London too daunting.
The benefit of doing it through one of the coach operators is that they depart from a local point, and would take you to the hotel, to the theatre and back to the hotel.
Thanks anyway.

hi pollycat
I have travelled with Travel Style Tours quite a few times aswell and have always found them fantastic value for money, hotels brilliant, tours fantastic and staff so very friendly, but we went with them to Paris last August and unfortunately without going into too much details I had a anniversary present taken from our room while we were out. I wrote to Travel Style and explained my situation, it took a few weeks but they wrote a lovely letter back to me and sent me £40 of travel vouchers to use on my next trip. Although the theft was not actually anything to do with them I was so upset that I held them responsible because the hotel had been recommended by them, so I was very grateful to them and very surprised as I thought they weren't bothered because it took about 6 weeks to get a reply. I am sorry to hear about your mums dissapointment and hope you are able to satisfy her wish to meet Lee Mead, perhaps a letter to Travel Style might go to the same kind customer services member of staff who received mine and they might be sympathetic.
Good Luck

why do people always want compensation.
How can Travelstyle be responsibly for you getting things stolen from your hotel wen thay are only a tour operator thay don't own hotels. Its because of people like you that thay have to keep putting the prices up on there holidays. Why don't you take insurance out and STOP WINGING. The Cheaper the holiday the more you want. I am a coach driver but have never worked for Travelstyle. But ask any Driver and thay will tell you we are Sick of passengers like you. All ways looking for COMPANSATION0 -
A bit unnecessarily aggressive for a first post, don't you think, coachdriver?
I (as the OP) did not mention compensation in any of my posts, nor did I ask or expect it of Travelstyle.
bucksha, who kindly replied to my post mentioned an incident of theft whilst on a Travelstyle holiday.
If you'd taken care to read that post, it doesn't actually say that bucksha asked for compensation, just that Travelstyle sent what, to me, sounded like a goodwill payment, probably for a repeat customer.
I couldn't see any WHINGING in that post at all.
And, for heaven's sake - why have you dug out a thread that is almost 4 months old?0 -

When I stayed in a hotel a few months ago,in the uk,there was a sign up in reception saying their was a law under which the hotel could be held liable for items missing up to a certain threshhold.I thought i would mention this,as it was new to me.Presumably the hotel was just adhering to it's legal obligations.0 -
I had a similar BAD experience with Travelstyle(Chesterfield) recently, had loads of problems with the drivers attitude, no air con on the bus but the heating was stuck on etc etc, to much to mention, i wrote a letter of complaint and got £20 vouchers as gesture of good will, not much for a spoilt weekend break which cost £ £160.00!!!0

I accept your point BUT my original point was that Travelstyle offered dates when Lee Mead was scheduled to perform but obviously didn't buy the tickets even when they'd taken her money! She's having a full refund but for heaven's sake, why did they take her money but not book the tickets at the time she paid her deposit?0

Bus/Coach drivers are some of the most miserable men on earth. There are a few good ones but not many.Don't grow up. Its a trap!
Peace, love and labradors!0
