Hi
I'd like to add some extra search engines...
for example
https://lite.qwant.com
and
https://duckduckgo.com/lite

It looks like it's possible to do this with the desktop version...
It's there in "Settings > Manage search engines".
But I can't figure out how to do this with the skimpy ANDROID version of Chromium that's on my phone.

I found some info on a website...
He's referring the (Chromium based) Bromite browser but he says...
"This is a feature provided upstream by Chromium and Bromite does not change any aspect of it."
Then...
"you can add any other search engine as explained in previous paragraph."
Makes it sound so simple but his link points to an "OpenSearch" post from Mozilla.:(
This is the link...
https://github.com/bromite/bromite/wiki/SearchEngines

If anybody out there knows how to do this then please walk me through it.;)

(My ANDROID browser is Chromium v79.0.3945.139 built by the Bromite people, installed via the F-Droid client.)

You can choose* a search engine (e.g. DuckDuckGo is in the list) but I'm not aware of a way to add one. A quick Google ( ;) ) yields this link which is for DuckDuckGo ... your preferred search engine may offer a similar mechanism.

    * 3 dots | Settings | Search engine

Alternatively, create a shortcut (in Chrome) to your search engine of choice and put it on your Home screen. That way when you open Chrome via the shortcut it'll take you straight to your search engine.

    Hi
I've figured out what that guy at Bromite is saying about additional Search engines for ANDROID Chrome/Chromium browsers.

    Try this...
With ANDROID Chrome/Chromium browser go to the website https://lite.qwant.com/
That's the website for Qwant search engine, the LITE version.

    Then perform one search.
For example just type bbc into the site's search box (and hit enter).

Then tap the hamburger menu (three dots) > Settings > Search engine.
See that it says "Recently Visited".
    And it shows Qwant Lite.
Then we can set it as the default Search engine if we wish.

    That's it. Bingo!
    :T

When it's set as default Search engine, when using Chrome/Chromium to perform a search, just type your query in the Omnibox as normal.
Then it will show the Qwant logo (favicon) in the Omnibox instead of the logo that it showed before...
i.e. the Google logo or the Yahoo logo or the Bing logo or the DuckDuckGo logo.
(These are the four default Search engine options that are baked into Chrome/Chromium when it's built).

When you have typed the query in the Omnibox you will see the Qwant logo and it will perform the search using Qwant Lite.
    :)

The new Search engine will stay there as an option in > Settings > Search engine.
But perhaps it might disappear if/when we un-set it as default Search engine and if/when we clean out the Cookies and site data.

My take on that Mozilla post that Bromite linked to...
It mentions that a Search website such as Qwant is able to contain code to show that it is actually a Search website.
And so Chrome/Chromium recognizes that it is a Search website which lets it automatically list it as a "Recently Visited" Search engine for us to set as default if we wish.
