Can I switch with debt form previous tenant?

Options
Hello All,

So as the title suggests, can I switch energy providers if there is debt from the previous occupier? They have left a debt of around £180 and I don’t wish to use the provider at the current property as the reviews are awful. Can I just switch or would I need to contact the previous supplier and tell them? From the awful reviews (the company is Green Stat Energy), I feel the company may be difficult over the debt.

Any advice please or anyone had similar experiences?

Thank you

The previous occupant's debt is their debt, not yours. So long as you gave opening readings in your name when you moved in there is no reason why you would be prevented from changing suppliers.
