Hi Guys, I would appreciate some step by step instructions on how to download the photos on my phone (Samsung Galaxy J4) onto an external backup drive. I bought the phone a couple of months ago and have taken a lot of photos and would like to make sure I move them onto a backup drive just in case.

I would suggest you install Google photos then sync so that everytime you take a photo using your phone, the photo is not only on the phone but goes automatically to Google photos. Doing this, if you have any other device, laptop, Chromebook, tablet provided you've installed Google photos on each, all of your phone taken photos are accessible.
Then, if you so wish, you can delete them from your phones memory, knowing that they are in the cloud ie Google, from wherever you wish to see them.
I have thousands stored that way. I've even created albums and drifted them across accordingly. You can change phones as often as you like, install GPhs and just carry on.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I'd just use a USB cable and copy them across, via a PC.0

+1 .. install and use the Google Photos app. Use it instead of the Gallery .. and when you are on WiFi it will keep your photos backed up.0

The photos will already, probably, be backed up to Samsung and/or Google.
Look for your Samsung cloud app and Google photos.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Thank you guys for all the helpful information. I will learn how to use google photos but I'll also back them up on a USB stick or external drive. Several months ago I saw a consumer programme where a man had lost all his photos and business documents that were stored in the cloud and he never got an answer as to why they had all disappeared. Obviously, he said that he'd never rely solely on the cloud ever again so I've learnt from his mistake.0

If they are in Google photos, just download them from there to your PC/laptop and copy them to USB simply with a drag and drop. You then have them in 3 places.Thank you guys for all the helpful information. I will learn how to use google photos but I'll also back them up on a USB stick or external drive. As far as I know they're not in google photos but I definitely like the idea of having them in 2/3 places so I'll learn what I need to do to achieve that. Thanks!0
