Cracked sewer and dirty water in our cellar

Can we ask for compensation? the sewer for four terraced houses (responsibility of water company) has been inspected by camera and found to be split in two places, two doors away from us. Water has got into our cellar, smells bad and was tested. Found to be contaminated. They booked us an appointment and sent a technician yesterday to remove the water but he had no equipment to do this ! The call centre apologised and are sending another technician today. So that's two days I've had to finish work early.
Is it reasonable to ask for compensation as it is the water company's sewer that has leaked into our property and also for time wasted not sending technician with any equipment?
