Water in cellar after rain

We live in a terraced house . Rainwater is entering our cellar when it rains. The drains are at the back of the house and the cellar is at the front of the house. Seems that the water is coming in at the back of the house and going under dining room, (void but no cellar at back of house) ,then appearing in cellar.
What is usually the cause of this?the water company are sending a jet van on Thursday to investigate. I'm wondering what will happen ?

Unless less its been tanked, they all tend to get a little water, the is sometimes floor drain to keep it down.

Always good to make sure the drains are good or its not a leaky water mains. But the has the been lots of rain the last couple weeks.
  • We had exactly the same issue. Had the water company out, the drains cleaned but nothing found. Seemed it was just the water table rising. We eventually had a sump put in with pump, and while it continued to get damp occasionally, it didn't flood.
