Estimates WAY OFF

Hi Everyone.

Hope you are all well ?

I recenlty left EDF to join PFP Energy.
I had one of their salesman come to the door and since my bills seemed a little high compared to friends and family I heard him out and said my monthly bills would come down a fair bit. Sceptical I done some research and seen nothing but good reviews.

With EDF I was £100 a month for gas and electric, I always got around £40-60 back per year. I was with them for over 5 years.

I was told this was ridicilous amont to pay and the average for my property should be around £60 a month. They said they would set up a drect debit for £62.75. Given i joined them in December i knew my bills would be slightly higher.

I'm now 3 month in and they say i owe almost £327 extra. I done a little digging and looking at my old EDF bills it looks way off. i called them up and asked them to explain the £62 and can't get a straight answer. I have looked at my tarriff and it almost works out to be £1400 for the year. Almost £200 a year more !!!.

Where do i stand with this ? Im sold a direct debit service around £62.50 as my estimated cost when in reality its almost £121. Almost 100% increase !!!!

Hi - the bills you have had so far are for winter months when the consumption is much higher, which probably explains the difference. By the end of the first year you'll have a better idea of where things stand, assuming you don't have meter readaings you can compare. I would suggest the best thing to do is to increase your monthly payment back up to £110 or so which should clear up a good chunk of the backlog, and then they will revise the estimate again at the end of the year (or you can just pay any balance you owe them and move on to another supplier).

Any tariff that you agree to is not defined by Direct Debit payments but by the rates which you will be charged and the other terms and conditions.

Only by doing calculations with these rates and a good estimate of your annual consumption can you forecast the expenditure with that tariff. You do not appear to have done this for your previous tariff or the new one.

    Do the sums...

Did you not do your own maths first ?... EDF cost you £100 a month, £1200 a year- the £60 you get back = £1140, or £95 a month....so you're £30+ a month shy on your DD. I'm afraid you've fallen for the sales pitch and the grossly underestimated figures

  • This isn't the maths they should be doing.

Only thing that matters is annual consumption
    *Old rates + standing charge

And annual consumption*new rates + standing charge

    And go from there

I should have done the maths myself rather than listen to the crap coming from the guys mouth.

In addition to the above, you also never trust a salesman - especially one that calls at the door.
