Domain name purchase query...

Hi there,
I recently purchased a .io domain name from dreamhost. This was paid for 6 days ago.
It is showing in my account as “parked” but is still showing as available on other sites and when I type in the domain there is no dreamhost hosting page.
I have also recently bought two domains from godaddy. As soon as I had purchased my domain was unavailable from other providers with a godaddy hosting page.
So why is this different via dreamhost? As far as I was aware the initial purchase was for me to own the domain - just like has happened via godaddy.
I’m not ready for the website to go live yet (6 months away) I just want to know the name is mine for use in the future.
PS I have emailed support twice about this and had no response so any help would be great.
Thanks!

"Parked" usually means it's pointing to a default "coming soon" or "under Construction" page set up by the provider.

Depending on the re-seller it might take a while for them to update things.
Check your Dreamhost control Panel
You'll need to take you're domain off of "parked" and set it to another "hosting type" I'd suggest set it to "redirect" to one of your GoDaddy pages temporally to test to see if it's working.
If not keep trying to get on to supportLaters

Thanks Sol.
Just done that and it says the following...
Your changes should take effect within a few hours as DNS re-propagates.
The annoying thing is I just refreshed the DNS and can't do so again for 12 hours now!
Really poor experience with dreamhost so far. Support is non-existant either. Should have just gone with godaddy again and bitten the bullet on the higher price. So frustrating.0 -
As much as I here GoDaddy, they usually get things done. Things like DNS changes and redirects happen in minutes not hours.Laters

I think what you may have done is buy a domain that existed already and takes time to move to your portal as opposed to registering a new domain.
I like Dreamhost but I always keep my domains with a separate supplier who is way cheaper, I think I have one domain with Dreamhost because they include reg free each year.
I would not use GoDaddy again EVER, they always hide charges, their portal is awful and their founder and largest shareholder kills elephants for sport. I always believe the values of a company come from the top and that tells you all you need to know about them.0
