    Weekly Flylady Thread 6th August 2018 5th Aug 18 at 6:36 PM
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.

Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!

Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.

Thank you Natty for last week's thread

Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!

The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!

Every room comes back around next week so please don't stress about catching up

These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.

Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
    WM ~ Washing machine
    TD ~ Tumble dryer
    SC ~ Slowcooker
    BM ~ Breadmaker
    DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
WUDUPA ~ washed up, dried up, put away
WUALTD ~ washed up and left to dry
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
    DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
    OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
    NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
    ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
    MAD half hour
    - Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!

Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

In of sorts. Will be off to a festival where Himself is performing at the end of the week, so a bit limited in time, although he's out at rehearsal tomorrow, which will give me some peace.

Done very little, but have finally attacked the Cat Food Cupboard in the kitchen. Turns out it's cat food, hamster and aquarium requisites, gardening stuff, a couple of pan lids, two colanders and three boxes of tools/scrappy bits of nonsense.

Hoiked out the vaguely useful tools to go with the others in the cupboard under the stairs in a minute, chucked out just one long forgotten tin of splat food that had a dent, kept the two others that were fine, felt sad for the hamster and fishes, got over myself, cleaned the inside and reorganised so that all the current splat stuff fitted easily in the bottom as well.

Surprisingly, Himself took it upon himself to clean the kitchen - and seems to have done a reasonable job. Probably something to do with him being out tomorrow and knowing I'd only end up cleaning it again otherwise (and not being happy about it).

Need to stick the BM on overnight, but other than that, tomorrow will probably be a quick swipe of the bath and shower rooms and possibly a shower room floor scrub, depending on whether I get any sleep tonight.

    Oooh.

We're going to the Fireworks, then festival #1, then I'm working festival #2, then we're back down properly for a bit.

That's a lot of sorting and organising and Flying to do so we don't come back to a midden.

    Hmm...[rubs chin]

Arrrgh. Much bristly decluttering is needed for that length of time!

[Adds 'getting backside down the salon' to the list]

Night/morning/evening - small woke me up an hour ago and now I can't sleep, too hot!

I missed last week's adventures due to forgetting to subscribe (oops, sorry all)

    We are home, briefly!
Got back yesterday, all washing was done, pegged out and dried in the afternoon/evening thanks to the lovely weather.

Pretty much repacked to go away again tomorrow (today!) until Friday then I am home!

We ended up bringing lots of random left over food bits back from our three week lakes Work trip, so will need to do a bit of an inventory when I return.

I also need (on my return) to have a proper blitz and sort out of the baking stuff. I want to have a good Declutter of the kitchen and the various baking stuffs is a good place to start. Especially As we are coming up to bake off season. What I don't use this series of bake off is going out (with a group of friends we have a weekly 'bake along' lots of fun getting to try out new recipes and techniques)

The general house decluttering will continue although any hoped for house move is now delayed by at least a year as hubby may lose a big, annual contract as they are rendering again this year.

I hope everyone has a good week, I shall read along as usual and hopefully be back in full swing next week.

    Morning all.

Today I have to water garden, empty kitchen of appliances as new flooring is being laid tomorrow, go to dentist, do list, change sweaty bedding and walk dogs weather permitting. May also hoover through too.

    Have a great day everyone.

Morning all! Been away for best part of a fortnight with my Mum and Dad in Truro which was a lovely break and then took Breggey to her first show yesterday which involved getting up at 3.55!! Was worth it though - got two thirds and she behaved beautifully.

I am in and going to do my best to keep up with working, looking after kids etc.

Great. Binmen came two hours later than usual (two lorries, two crews and the essential shouted conversations over the noise of both - but the builders, who are not allowed to start before 8am have been making a racket since before 7. So I'm still awake anyhow.

And the sound of the BM starting up has just given me and the Grumpy Fluffy Cat the fright of our lives.

    Morning

The flylady fairy must have known I was going to be ill - that's why she had me flying last Monday after work!!! Came home from work on Tuesday evening feeling bleugh - blamed the heat and not been right / to work since. I keep going dizzy / losing my balance / makes me feel sick: I'm getting quite good at doing things without moving my head - then I forget, bend down to pick up something and stagger about to prevent nose-diving on to the floor. All I've managed to do fly wise is WM x2 on Saturday and again on Sunday. Hanging out the washing has been interesting If the neighbours have seen me they'd think I was drunk

I tried the Brandt Daroff exercises - I'm fine on the right, but the left makes me feel soooo ill Just completed the online 111 and it says to speak to GP practice within 6 hours hmmmm maybe should have done that 6 days ago. Heyho. Getting through to the surgery on a Monday will be impossible, fun a challenge

Anyhoo I will be carefully cheering you all on (whilst keeping my head still). Has the fount of all knowledge that is flylady any tips on how to end this miserable state of affairs?

The power of flylady vibes I was queue position 2 so held on ... and I have an appointment to see the nurse practitioner at 11.45 today.

    Daren't drive: better ring Dad

Flying? I've made the bed: that's not so bad - if I lose my balance it's a soft landing

Roundtuit - GWS vibes; dizziness is horrible, I know (having ended up on the dog-shelf more than once myself that way).

Doggies go home this afternoon, so will vacuum after they've left. I have a meet'n'greet to do on Sunday, so better get this midden sorted.

Valli I'd have loved to volunteer, but my self confidence is shot (again) and I just don't think I'd do a good job; I'd get stressed worrying that I wasn't doing a good job, and I can't cope with any more stress right now. Hope you understand.

    FFS.

Binmen haven't collected the recycling again. It'll be at least 6 weeks since it was last collected before they even consider it again, at which point the collection days (and probably frequencies) are changing.

Lots and lots of sweary words for them now.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Jojo they failed to take our jars and bottles this week; Mr LW said we'd drop them off at the bottle bank at Tosspots, but when we got there, it's gone. There's just a clothing bank there now - it used to be clothing, bottles and poly bags. So we ended up going to the tip, as I couldn't have all that lot kicking about cluttering up the shed.
