    Secure in relation to what?

When i first moved in round here a local bank had a forklift drive through its wall, pick up the cash machine and drive away. That wasnt secure enough.

I saw someone get annoyed when a cash machine ate their card, they proceeded to hit the machine. It was secure enough.

There s ayoutube video of a guy using dynamite to blow up a cash machine, theyre not secure enough against dynamite.

Then theres the situations where someone gets robbed at a cash machine after theyve withdrawn their money. I would argue though that the cash machine remained secure, the victim didnt.

The best secure ones are the ones that havent been stolen/damaged. The worst secure ones are the ones that have been stolen/damaged.

Your own security is the most important thing - hide your pin, make sure nobody is getting ready to mug you,
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I;ve heard about " skimmers " and paranoid i'll get scammed
  • If it happens, it happens.

If you need cash, try and go directly to your bank and withdraw what you need from over the counter.

Even the machines inside banks are susceptible to skimmers etc. being put on them

Use machines inside banks/building societies. They are less likely to be tampered with.

    80,000 machines in the UK
    60 million transactions per week.

I doubt more than a few skimmers are active at any one time so if you're sensible and observant you'll be fine.

Things I look for regarding ATMs...

    - Inside Banks.

    - Anti-skimming precautions (odd-shaped card slots, slow card entry and exit).

    - Clean = well looked-after.

    - Recognised bank branding and/or clear signs that withdrawals are free.
