I’m not at all green fingered (unfortunately)!

Could someone give me some advice regarding a pear tree that is about 8 feet tall in my garden – it produces quite a lot of pears but they are pretty tasteless and tend to go bad in the middle quite quickly. I read somewhere about pruning it – not sure when, how or where! Any guidance much appreciated.

We have an old (80 year+) pear tree at the bottom of our garden, a bit bigger than yours (around 30 foot tall) and found that most advice on pruning was to do it in winter before the buds appear so if you want to do it you need to do it now or leave it until next winter.

I did ours in December to cut back branches overhanging the wall. Mostly we leave the fruit for the birds, but the ones we pick tend to go into pies and are chopped up and put in the freezer, so I don't know how long they are expected to last.

The RHS has some useful advice on the subject: https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=858

Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.
