ASDA Sharesave Scheme

Has anyone took part in, or knowledgeable on this scheme?...it looks good. I'm trying to save a bit more money, having money taken out of my pay packet and the possibility of making a profit appeals to me. I'll be a uni student come September so don't know if it would be worthwhile for me to contribute to the scheme!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • If you're going to leave in September I wouldn't bother but yes they are well worth doing

Can!!!8217;t speak for the Asda scheme specifically but I!!!8217;ve been in a few sharesaves with my employer.

Are you going to stay with Asda for the next 3 years?
If yes, could you afford to keep up the savings - you can!!!8217;t change the amount once you have started.

If you are planning on leaving in September you would only make 5 or 6 contributions - why not save these in a savings account where you aren!!!8217;t tempted to withdraw the cash.

I thought that in order to cash in on the options you needed to complete the full 3 or 5 year term? In other words, if you left the company earlier then you get your money back but not the option to buy the cheap shares.

I took part in a 5 year scheme in a previous career with a FTSE 100 company and it was very very worth my while. If you can afford it I would say definitely go for it, but as per the above, if you are leaving in a few months time there is probably little point unless I am mistaken about ending your scheme early.

you have to be spectacularly inept to lose money in a workplace share scheme, but I do hear tale of enormous differences that staff in the same company make - in one case nearly £100,000 profit, while colleagues a couple of years later got nothing!

Inept seems entirely the wrong word. Unlucky, yes, but not inept.

You'd have to do something like exercising options while they're out of the money - I'd call that inept.
  • Hey

I work for Asda. My boyfriend is in this scheme and is set to gain about £5000 profit from 3 years worth of savings so it’s definitely worth it. I’ve just joined saving £300 a month. Even if I’m not there in 3 years it’s stoll a good way to save but If I am then hopefully gain a large profit

When you exercise the option to buy the shares there is usually a delay in selling the shares either through the scheme or requesting a certificate to sell the shares through your own choice of broker. It might only be a few days or a week but in that time you could be unlucky and the share price drops to below the option price.
