This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

The one morning that I have to get up early is the one night I got to bed at 11.30 and sleep all the way through until the alarm went off at 4.30am. This is because my niece stayed here yesterday evening as she is going on a ski holiday with some friends who live near me today and she couldn’t expect them to travel all the way to her home to collect her before setting off for the airport. It was nice to have her here. I had better go and make her a cup of tea, wake her up and give her some breakfast. No one warned me about the early start!.

The forecast is for another damp, dull and grey day around here today. It just never seemed to get properly light yesterday. On the positive side, there is much less chance of that I will trip over and hurt myself again and the heating doesn’t need to be on too high

I think I have turned the corner with this cold, I felt much better yesterday and even managed to cook myself a simple meal from scratch and bake some soda bread. I did feel quite tried by the evening but nothing like I have done.

Dumpling the 16th is very close, I would hope that the team treating Becky would meet with you before discharge to discuss what help and support both Becky and you will get. You don’t need her being discharged without anything in place.

I hope the appointment with the surgeon went well Nelski and that the waiting list isn’t too long.

I hope that your dad behaved yesterday evening nannywindow.

JackieO my thoughts are with you Frank, Margaret and the rest of the family. I hope that Frank has a peaceful passing.

Karcher - thinking of you, hope you are ok.

I am not sure what I fancy for dinner tonight so will go and have a rummage around in the freezer in a minute. There is plenty in there, in fact far too much really. I need to make sure that I east from the freezers and run them down so that I can clean them.

    Take care everyone.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.
  • Morning, after a short run of better nights, I woke at 3 and after half an hour, gave up trying to sleep.

OH and DS will be out today and it is my day off so I'm going to do the Friday Tidy with added scrubbage. The bathroom needs a bit of a blitz. They will come back to a clean house and promptly grubby it up all over again.

Hope everyone has a good day and JackieO, I'm keeping your family in my thoughts.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, ice cream for those that wanted some. Dinner tonight will be HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, peas and gravy.

Yesterday was a bit of a hectic one, as I just went from one thing to another but I got everywhere I was going on time - so wasn't too bad.

Visited the hospital, and she wasn't great completely confused, didn't recognise me until I was putting my coat on to leave, was talking complete gibberish - so quite a difficult visit. I'm going back today so we'll see how things are and to give dad some support.

    So on to today -

I'll be heading to the SM first thing, then home to unpack and sort the huge pile of clean dry washing on the dining room table, I'm intending to get the ironing done and shove the hoover round, before going back to the hospital this afternoon. If I get chance I'll also peel a pan of potatoes so I've got a bit of a headstart for when I get back. I have a few other bits to do so will try and fit them in also.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. It feels much milder here too. Most welcome as the heating has had to be on far too much this winter.

I could have stayed in bed this morning if we didn't have the 3 DGDs staying but I have to be up to get them up! After another coffee though! Middle DGD has two panto performances today and needs to be picked back up from school at 11.00 and taken to the chaperone for the run over. A packed lunch to make for the journey.

Eventually I might get on with the Friday Tidy (including the kitchen which STILL hasn't been done!!) I'm still not up to par so it won't be a thorough clean round.

Iwent to Aldi yesterday and I have never seen it so quiet, especially for a Thursday. There was loads of stuff reduced to half price (F & V, meat and bread) sadly not a lot of which I needed! I did grab a few packs of chicken fillets though which will come in handy.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, carers, sad or worried. Thinking of poor Frank and Margaret and KARCHER too. Also NMLC's mum. Take care all xx

    Morning All

Much better night for me, slept for 8 1/2 hours, feel much better this morning. Went to DDs for tea last night, very nice sweet potato and peanut curry, a good chat and catch up. She was made redundant on Christmas Eve but has a 4 day a week job for now, better than nothing.

Sorry so many of you are poorly/down/injured, hope things improve soon.

    Happy Friday, take care. XX

    Good morning all,

Hollyharvey I'm glad you're starting to feel better.
Nannywindow, sorry to hear of the death of your friend's mum. Hugs to you.
nmlc sorry that your mum wasn't too good yesterday. I hope she's less confused today.
Also thinking of Frank and sending strength to Margaret.

A quiet day today methinks. The HT woke at 6:30 with what seems to be the tail end of a migraine so he's medicated, fed and tucked up on the sofa. He's on a computer ban until he feels better but will probably have the day off school. I have a nurse appointment to have my leg dressed (it's done once a week at the doctors to check it, I do it myself the rest of the time) and then I'm hoping for a quiet day in, possible with some added hobnob baking and some knitting and/or crochet. The HT needs a haircut so if he's off school and feels better by this afternoon we can go and have that done. I need to liberate something from the freezer for my evening meal so I'm off for a read of the inventory to see what I fancy....

    Take care all of you
  • Morning , it's damp here and seems quite mild.

Sorry to see that your Mum seems to have regressed a bit Nmlc, how upsetting for you and the family.
Jackie O, I hope Frank passes peacefully.

A friend of mine died yesterday - she was going to be admitted to a hospice, but never got there, poor soul.

There is so much sadness and ill health at the moment

Just ordinary stuff on the agenda for me - bit of shopping, and I'll visit an elderly friend who is not well, she has a book to return to the library and there's another one to pick up that she's ordered, so I'll do that.

I've got more of a voice today, but a cough as well, but I'm ok, just a bit noisy.

Have as good a day as you can, friends, and healing thouhts to the many that are sick or worried.
  • Morning all

Thanks for the tread Holly and hugs to those in need.

CHS has been dropped at work, I need to clean a boat today if I can, I fell yesterday whilst carrying a bucket of coal so I have a very tender coccyx. If I need to I can leave thee boat until next week when I may be a bit more mobile.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning all,

Quick one for me as I've to prepare for an early meeting.

Date night with my gran last night. Roast beef with all the veg. I swear she makes the best. We had a good chin wag and we went through old pictures of the town we live in, Airdrie, and I loved hearing the stories of when she was younger. I was home for 9ish and soon went to bed.

No plans this evening but a busy day tomorrow so may well opt for an early night. Tuna casserole for dinner, a new recipe so wish me luck.

Jackie - Your post yesterday was lovely.
HH - I'm glad you're feeling a bit more like yourself today. That'll be you on the road to recovery :)
Camelot - That sounds lovely. I might steal that idea one night.
Scarlett - Oh that's terrible news. I hope it was peaceful. Thinking of you today.
