CCJ and credit files

Having searched i cant find an answer to a questioned thats no doubt been asked multiple times.

How long after the six year period does it take the CRA to update the file to show no CCJ.

Having looked at all my CRA some are several months behind with account balances etc.

Although its satisfied and has been for a while im hoping the overall look of the file and its history (obviously ignoring the numbers lol) will improve.

A CCJ should only be recorded on your credit file for 6 years from the date the CCJ was issued. Credit files are only updated once a month so you may see a slight delay in the CCJ being removed. However if the CCJs are more than a month or so past the 6 year point you need to contact the credit reference agencies and ask them to remove them.

  • Just thought id mention that GiffGaff updated my Credit file on there site to show the CCJ was gone the day it was due to disappear.

Ok not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but how nice to see a Credit file updated to show a true reflection and not slightly out of date.

Only a small thing but really like the way GiffGaff keep on top of things.

This is not true for CCJ records. The CRAs automatically drop those themselves after 6 years.

Your statement is more or less correct for credit account data reporting by creditors, but even then, things like dropping defaults after 6 years happen on the day and are done by the CRA.

There however can be a small delay with Equifax, as their systems are quite frankly rubbish, plus if you use one of the free credit report services (Noddle/Clearscore etc), then they are monthly snapshots, so you have to wait for the next snapshot to see a change.
