Your first day at school. 6th Sep 17 at 1:26 PM
I'm listening to the radio and they're talking about the first day at school, have the little ones gone back today ?
People have been calling to share stories, not just about today and how their kids faced it, but talking about when they first went to school maybe 50/60yrs ago.

All these people on the radio saying, it's a day you never forget. I've been trying to remember, i think i've forgotten. I can remember my first day at senior school. It was a grammar and not in our area, so most of the people were new to me. My Mum had divorced when i was only a baby and remarried, so i'd always had a different name, never changed it to her new married name. We thought going to the new school with new people was the ideal time to change it. But then the first day when they called the register they called my old name. I was shy and didn't know whether to answer or not. The couple who had moved to the new school with me were urging me to answer, everyone else was looking around the room.
What was your first day at school like, or your kids ?

I remember my first day of primary school very clearly.

Had a very upset tummy that my mum thought was just nerves...

Needless to say it wasn't. Within half an hour of the school day I was wearing the 'emergency pants' and waiting for my mum to collect me. She felt awful.

This was back in the day when teachers didn't need witnesses or escorts to deal with small children's accidents...

Secondary school was the most miserable time of my life and I try hard to forget it!

I remember lagging behind my mother on the way and her being very cross at my reluctance and tardiness. What she didn't realise was that I was wearing a pair of knickers with no elastic in them and they were in danger of falling down completely!

I remember some things about my infants school but not the first day. Funny how a certain smell can take me straight back there.....

First day at secondary started in the school hall. All our names were called out and one by one we were sorted into our new classes. I loved that school.
Sadly we moved house 2 years later and hated the new school
    Girls do it better....
