New Santander debit card

Hi all
I received a letter today saying that Santander will be sending me a new debit card shortly even though my old one has not expired yet "in order to provide you with the latest card technology".
It doesn't give any indication what this new technology is, so I was wondering if anyone knows. This is a Santander Select Gold debit card, and this is explicitly mentioned in the letter, so perhaps its something being added just to the gold cards (unless anyone has the same letter for a standard card?), in which case could there soon be an actual benefit of Santander Select, besides the ego-massaging card colour and the higher ATM limit, rather than it just being a marketing gimmick?

Wonder whether its anything to do with this? (ignore the fact only Barclays have adopted it, it tends, if successful to spread across providers):

If this has been adopted presumably it means you wouldn't have a three-digit code on the back of the card.0 -
Hmmm. Its possible I guess Neil, but Santander aren't normally that cutting edge. I guess I'll find out when the new card arrives.0

I think the replacement cards can now be used as windscreen ice scrapers. Very thoughtful of Santander to get them all to us in time for winter.0
