UC: Transition from LCW to working p/t

Hi,

I would be really grateful for advice from any Universal Credit experts.

I am on Universal Credit Limited Capability for Work. I have been out of work due to ill health for over a year. I have had to get notes from the doctor saying I am too ill to work and send them to UC.

I am now starting to feel better and have tentatively got a possible 3 days' work coming up. I am hoping to regularly work part-time soon.

So basically I need to go back onto the JSA version of UC.

How do I notify UC about this without fudging it up? My sick note is until 30th August but I am feeling a bit better and the work is from 21/08 to 23/08. Do I get a new note from GP saying I can work part time?

Many thanks for any advice

I think this may hinge on the relationship with your work coach at the JC.

Under ESA there was permitted work, which was intended to allow ESA claimants to "try out" work whilst still claiming ESA. This had to be agreed with their work coach in advance.

Since UC is supposed to be more flexible than the legacy benefits, in theory this should be possible (and hopefully welcomed).

I would tend to talk it over with your work coach. Want you don't want to happen is that this triggers a reassessment of your claimant commitment, and you are expected now to job hunt full time.
Of course you will need to notify UC of the earnings in the month as it will impact on your UC calculation, so again talk this over in advance so that it doesn't come as a surprise to your work coach.
Whether you do this in person, or via your online diary I'm not sure.

A caveat: This is written from theory, not from a practical experience of UC.
