Parents Home Insurance Claim Rejected

Hi,
I am after some advice and I am hoping someone can help. My parents have just tried to make a claim on their home insurance but it has been refused due to ME having a CCJ from 2013.
I lived by myself for 10 years until me and my partner split up recently so I moved back to my parents house this year.
The house insurance policy was started way before I moved back so why is my CCJ affecting their house insurance claim and is there anything I can do about it?
Thank you

Home insurance is a yearly product. Each year it renews and each year your parents are sent a renewal notice, and told to check through all the information to make sure nothing has changed.
If there is a question that states has 'anyone' in the property every had a CCJ etc, then your parents would have needed to declare it.
Who is their insurer?
I'm doing quotes at the moment and most refer to 'any adult living in the property' as having criminal convictions, or insurances cancelled, voided etc.0 -
Thank you for the reply.
I am sure the policy was renewed before I moved back and I will find out who the insurer is and post it here.
Would they have had to contact the insurer when I moved back to update the policy or just wait until the next renewal?0 -
They would have had to have notified the insurers when you moved back in sadly as it's a material fact, seen a fair few claims rejected because people didn't realise but it's in the policy wordings and T&C's
I try and make sure people know that if anything changes (someone moves in, or any other chance of circumstance) to drop me an email or call me and I'll let their insurer know if it's a material fact that needs noting (I'm an insurance broker)0 -
That answers my question then! Thanks a lot for the help both of you
