where to start?

I'm a 49 years old female with various health conditions including type 2 diabetes and fibromyalgia. Due to parent/carer responsiblies I have not worked apart from the occasional short periods since 1993. Was planning to return to work until I fell ill and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2011. My kids are grown up and left home and my husband works full time and I get esa and pip. I have no pension to speak off and no life insurance or funeral plan etc. This bothers me aa my mother died and left an awful mess and I don't want that to happen to my kids. Hubby has his own life insurance so he he dies first I'll be fine but if I go first he will struggle to pay for the funeral etc. We have no savings or investments nor are we realistically ever going to be in a position to do so. I know that with health problems cheap life insurance schemes are not an option but I have no idea if life insurance us affordable to someone like me or even a realistic option.

It looks like this post may have duplicated, so just in case you didn't see the response on the previous thread, I've copied it below for you:

    Hello there,

It's good that you're looking into the 'what ifs' that may occur and trying to provision - in that alone, you're one step ahead of many people in this world!

If I break your message down into a couple of elements, hopefully this could help by way of the life insurance angle:

    (1) Type 2 Diabetes - obtaining life insurance as a diabetic is usually possible, depending on the control of the condition. Depending on how long you've had it, any associated complications, and your HBA1C readings will dictate how insurers will view the premiums on offer. Some may offer you cover at 'standard terms' (ie. no increase to the advertised premiums - this is rare for diabetes), or others could increase the premium due to the risk when compared against insuring a 'fit and healthy' individual with no health issues.

    (2) Fibromyalgia - again, this depends on the control of the condition (ie. associated levels of fatigue, depression, joint troubles...). For many this won't pose any issues, but will certainly need to be disclosed.

From an insurance point of view, Critical Illness Cover & Income Protection will not be available to you so you would only be considered for Life Cover only.

Due to the disclosures, I would definitely recommend speaking to a protection broker/specialist to get an indication of cover terms available to you.

Thanks didn’t realise it had posted twice. My diabetes is reasonably well controlled by medication quantifying the impact fibromyalgia has on my life is a bit more difficult. I would say compared to a lot of people with fibro I'm fairly well. But obviously I'm a long way from being in good health. So where do I find someone reputable to advise me. We don't own property we are private sector rental and that is unlikely to ever change. My debts are limited to a credit card so it's just a question of paying for my funeral and hopefully maybe being able to leave my kids and grandkids a little bit. So my needs are fairly modest
