P&D machines that wont accept new £ coins - UKPPO Ltd

Hi

First, if this is answered else where please can someone point to the thread please.

Parked up last night in a UKPP controlled car park in Manchester City Centre, tried to pay the £1 fee but machine would not accept new £1 coins, tried to get an old style quid, but no luck, left a note on dashboard explaining. Came back to car, PCN issued for £60/£100. Machine does not state it will not accept new coins. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Google for "frustration of contract", as that is what this is ... the driver tried to pay but was unable to due to a fault with the payment machine not accepting legal tender.

The old £1 is still valid until 15th October 2017.

It's not frustration of contract. OP was never in a contract as they failed to fulfill their end of it. OP did not pay.. No law states that ALL coins of the realm need be accepted.

When you find you didn't have the right coinage you should have left. This has already been done to death on another thread.

Forget the term 'LEGAL TENDER' It is grossly overused and doesn't mean what people think it means

Send the usual challenge for IPC members, as set out in the NEWBIES thread. Add a bit about £1 coins if you like, but NOT saying who was driving and only admitting to being the registered keeper of the car (if you are).

Then ignore the rest of the crap, unless they try a court claim later down the line (defendable).
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
