Feeling unsafe at work

  • I've had to crop them all so it's not possible to see who the company are because i'm not sure if that can land me in hot water.. but the shelves that are bent if you can see the pointy part is where I keep catching my arm (and others have done) and i'm worried as it's caked in filth and if somebody has bled which is more than likely it's a concern.

Update: you don't even need to put http you can just copy the imgur link.

As this is retail it's not likely to be the HSE that are the enforcement agency.
  • I looked into the HSE too before and it seems retail isn't covered would be my local authority

Bear in mind, its all well and good reporting your employer to external agencies etc but it may lose you your job which doesnt benefit you at all. I would contact people internally but you would be going over your managers head.

Not saying you shouldnt do anything, but there are implications to some of the advice given so far.

No union unfortunately :( savvy sue

As you are leaving the job 'tie a knot in your hanky' to remind you to join a union when you get your next job. If there is no-one else in a union where you work you can still join on your own online & get the protection & lots of useful advice & information. You don't have to tell your employer you are in a union & you can pay by direct-debit from your bank account.

Go to this website / app and click on the blue buttons to choose the right union for you:
    https://www.tuc.org.uk/join-union

TUC = Trades Union Congress - it's the central 'umbrella organisation' for all the different types of UK trades unions for all types of employment.

(If you change to a different sort of job you can change to a different union. If you accidentally pay union subs after you have left a job or change to a job with lower pay so lower subs, the union will refund you what you have overpaid).

    would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

There's definitely no 'a' in 'definitely'.
  • If you're leaving anyway, I'd be tempted to contact your Head Office with the photos and details of previous action you've taken.

Explain that you've felt so unsafe that you've been forced to resign your position and that you are doing them the courtesy of notifying them to give them an opportunity to rectify the issues before you subsequently take it further.
