Watch out for GB Energy price hikes!!
I have just had email from GB wanting to put my monthly contribution up from £82 to a massive £149 - over 60% increase!!! There is no way my consumption has increased by this much and after an hour wait on phone I was told they had been instructed by OFGEM to increase monthly payts - what a load of rubbish!! GB had no justification for increase and couldn't answer my questions and eventually agreed to an increase of £100 which is about right in my estimates. I think they are trying to get everyone off of their fixed crystal tariffs because they are unsustainable financilly but I am staying till my tariff ends. I am posting as I can't bear the thought that others will not object to increases and GB energy will get away with this daylight robbery!!!

GBEnergy does not exist! DD payments are only payments made on account. You will only pay for the energy that you use at the agreed rate. It is hardly daylight robbery: at the end of the contract, the Coop will have no option but to repay any credit balance on your account. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I know GB have been taken over but thats hardly important and if you are more than able to stump up an extra £70 a month well bully for you! I don't have that kind of money. Some people!!!!0

I have sorted my situation I just wanted people to be aware of what GB are up to.0

They are trying to hike mine by 45%, I am due to switch from Fixed 12 Sapphire to their new fixed which worked out about the same for me, certainly not 45% more expensive and I don't have a big deficit on my account.
I have written to them explaining I do not wish to become a 'shareholder' and they will need to raise capital elsewhere or I am out.0 -
This explains what happened to GB Energy:

Now the fixed tariffs Co-op inherited are ending, Co-op are coming in with their tariffs.
GB Energy probably went bust because their business was unsustainable. Their customers had a good deal - while it lasted.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. That's not really the issue, whether your GB tariff is ending or not (and they offered me a new one virtually the same cost) - everyone is suddenly getting letters hiking their monthly payments hugely that will put them in huge credit all year round.
The onus will then be on us to get them to refund the credit and I bet they won't be too helpful on that in a hurry! Its not on!0 -
I've just been looking at my bills in some more detail and something seems a bit weird.
I signed up to a new tariff back in August last year. My electricity use has risen since then by 408kWh/year. At the time they calculated 3,130kWh of electricity per year would cost me £378.46, (12.09p per kWh equiv.) and 14,954kWh of gas would cost me £477.03 (3.19p per kWh equiv.). Looking at my latest bill, they now estimate 3,538kWh of electricity will cost £547.82 (15.5p per kWh equiv.) and 14,954kWh of gas will cost £566.89 (3.8p per kWh equiv.). The tariff is exactly the same; 9.4p per kWh electricity + 18p per day standing charge, 2.645p per kWh gas + 16p per day standing charge.
Why would the estimated annual cost increase in a manner that is seemingly unlinked to usage? In August they estimated I'd spend ~£850 annually. With my increase in electricity use, this should have risen to ~£890. Instead, my annual estimated annual spend has risen to £1,114.71, about £225 more than my estimated usage would suggest.
Then there's the Direct Debits; £1,114.71 ÷ 12 = £92.90/month. My new Direct Debit is £106/month. So that's another £157/year they want to overcharge by. Total, just over £380/year in overpayments.0 -
Has anyone else noted the delay in billing? Whilst I submit my meter readings each month the December bill was not produced but following January readings I received a combined bill. OK accepting they had had some problems but then February no bill and when I rang them this week told that it would be combined with March.0
