Pink spots/lines in images

I've tried lots of things to fix this to no avail. When I'm looking at pictures there are little specks/lines of bright pink colour, sometimes it is worse than others & it's often connected to moving the mouse! If I click on the image they disappear but moving the screen up and down causes more to appear!

I have found some improvement by turning off hardware accelerator but then other programmes have problems working.

It's not only online, When I've changed the desktop image I can see lots of these dots/lines too.

I have used the repair disc but my son says I should reinstall totally though he's not sure this would work.

Do i need a new graphics card?

Have you tried updating the graphics driver? (where you get it depends on what your graphics card is)

Yes, I've tried that but no joy.

    Any more ideas, anyone please?

Any techno whizzes out there? I'm still having problems with this, I've now found that when I play video(home video that I did previously, films seem to be OK), it is plastered in these multi coloured dots and lines, when I turn the hardware acceleration off they disappear but then the video playback is fuzzy and blurry.

Ring any bells anywhere? Before I throw it out the window:mad:

Sounds like there could be an overheating problem with the graphics card or the memory on the graphics card failing.

Very true, could be early stages of failure. Maybe worth opening the pc case and checking the graphics card fan is still spinning.

Hi, was hoping I could get some more advice on here:confused:

The graphics card is still spinning, Superscaper.

I've totally uninstalled and re-installed windows, all was going well until I installed the drivers for the graphics card,lo and behold the colour is distorted again.

I've just installed google earth and when i entered a destination, the cursor zoomed in and the colour went nuts, flashing and zigzaggy lines and then the whole screen went black & the pc crashed:mad:

I've turned off hardware accelerator again for safety's sake although some programmes won't work now i can still browse the web.

I've ordered a new graphics card, do you think that will sort the problem or is it likely to be more serious?

Thanks so much for your help.
