Property Sucession abroad

Hi, just a brief question, has anyone ever had to deal with sorting a property left abroad following a loved ones Passing? I am trying to ascertain via others possible experiences, length of time taken to resolve within a European country. TIA

Name of the country in question would likely help.

Depends on the inheritance laws in the country concerned ....

Generally the person would have been wise to make a will in each country where they hold assets.

It's an ancesterol property in Italy, sucession laws work very different to UK inheritance, therefore a will can be rendered irrelevant. I just wondered if anyone has gone through similar. I am learning as I go through a process, but it's very complex appearing lengthy

Did the deceased leave a UK will? In any case you need professional help from a firm who specialises in UK/Italian inheritance law. Google reveals a number of them. Phone a few up and see what you think.

Yes, UK will was made. I have started procedures with Italian lawyers, which have been been proficient thus far. Just curious if anyone here been or know of anyone having similar experience. Dealing with UK is one thing but Italian is mind Boggling!

Noted. What usually happens is that the Italian court will accept a certified copy of the UK will. This will will be admitted to probate in Italy subject to the Italian laws of succession that are complex. Don't expect it to be a quick process! Sounds like you have it all in hand. Good luck.

Thanks. Had to take control despite still grieving, I have family beying to control, there is always a possibility family in Italy can lay claim. It's a minefield. Thanks for the words of advice (again)
