HPI - Does it stay until the finance company removes it?

I bought a car privately in September 2014. I'm fairly sure I did a HPI check at the time, but, as things were very busy, I don't have the paperwork.

Now, in February 2015, a Hire Purchase company have written to me saying that there is an Hire Purchase Agreement with them for it.

So, today, 10th February 2015, I did another HPI check, and again no HP agreements showing! I've a Pds10000 insurance on this check.

Obviously, I'm going to tell the finance company the situation. But, has anyone come across this before?
