Selling on Amazon - Passport details??!

Is anyone, like me, a little disconcerted that you have to give Amazon your passport details - amongst other requirements - to continue being a private seller?? I only sell about 12 or so books a year to clear my attic and it has raised a nice amount for me, but I think the requirements now are rather worrying.

I think it is because you have to open an Amazon Payments account in order to sell on Amazon now. I guess that means they have to do extra checks. Although I have a personal and private PayPal account and have never had to provide my passport details.
I am guessing that a lot of people are saying this but I genuinely am considering if I can be bothered to sell on Amazon any more. I only sell a few things a year on it and only things that I am too lazy to list on Ebay. The only fun thing about selling on Amazon was seeing how low you could get other sellers to get down to in order to undercut you.0 -
Yes, they are requiring all sellers to provide this info. I'm undecided if it's worth it!0

Just a thought, but could it be that if they are holding your money like a bank, they need to comply with anti-money laundering?Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. I'm guessing it will cut down on the number of scam artistes on Amazon?0

Yes, pretty much. You're essentially opening a bank account. If you want to sell on Amazon you have two choices, comply or don't sell on Amazon.ballisticbrian wrote: »Just a thought, but could it be that if they are holding your money like a bank, they need to comply with anti-money laundering?
The last thing I had to register for, I scanned my driving licence via webcam, it took seconds to verify it.
I'm not sure what anyone thinks Amazon are going to do with a copy of a passport, flog them on Ebay?;).0 -
Amazon only want the Passport number & Start/End Dates, so the authorities can trace you if your being naughty0
