Letting Agent problems

hi, i'm a newbie so please be gentle.

We currently rent and have been given notice for the end of October 2014. Dont have a problem with this as we're now buying and everything is moving ok with the house buying, so will be out for then.

The letting agent has given out our phone number to various estate agents so they can contact us to come and value the property. Also the letting agent has told us that painters will be round to paint the outside of the property.

To be honest we are a bit annoyed as we have nothing in writing or a telephone call regarding this, all we have is the notice telling us to be out by 31 October 2014.

I don't think you are over reacting but why react at all. Why would you want to have an argument. Life is short, you will be gone in six weeks either having had arguments and distress on both sides or be calm and let things happen in a pleasant way.
Why does everyone want to pick a fight.

Letting agents want to either sell or get it rented with new tenants ASAP.
Not sure how long you have lived in the property or how well you get on with Landlord and repairs BUT he/she now wants to spend money on painting ( Good) and prepare the property for the next tenant or sell.
If you allow viewings or the painting is up to you Quiet Enjoyment and All that

The painting outside wouldn't bother me as long as the painters hadn't just been given a set of keys to wander in and out my home willy nilly unless the LL had asked first.

Also giving your phone number out to all and sundry without checking with you first is rude.

So yes, I'd be a bit peeved if I were you but as gfplux says"life is too short," so just focus on your new home. Kicking up a fuss isn't worth the headache when you're trying to move and sort out utilities and packing and a million and one other things.

If/when you receive a phone call from an agent, you can either

    * cooperate and agree to their proposed viewing
    * negotiate an alternative convenient time or
    * say "never heard of you" and put the phone down.

    Up to you.

If you seriously fear the painters (or for that matter the agents) may simply let themselves in with keys without agreement, change the locks. If/when they query this and request access, you can

    * cooperate and agree to their proposed access
    * negotiate an alternative convenient time or
    * say, sorry I need 24 hours written notice
