Hi, we live just outside manchester in a detached dorma bunglow and have just been quoted £4700 for replacement fascias, sofits and guttering (originally it was £5600) by a company called viewline northwest. They said they would cover the existing wood boards. Has anyone had any experience of this company and can you advise if this is this a reasonable quote? Many Thanks

DO NOT COVER EXISTING BOARDS .Have them removed that price is extortionate for covering over we charge £60 -£75 a linear metre for total replacement and cover the Greater Manchesterif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0

How much? That price would be extortionate for proper replacement. For just tacking up a few lengths of UPVC over the rotten old boards, it's outrageous.
Any company that knocks £1,100 off just like that is clearly scamming you from the start.
Get some quotes for doing it properly. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
That price sounds extortionate to me. And simply boarding over the old wood is a really bad idea - it will just encourage the old timber to rot more.
I had my fascias and guttering re-done a couple of years ago. When the fascia company pulled off the old boards, they found that the timber roof beams behind were rotten. They called in a builder to repair the beams, and the builder called in a roofer to completely strip and re-lay the roof with three extra rows of tiles (because the original builders had skimped on roof tiles, letting the water in).
The whole lot still only came to about £2400.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I'd say extortionate too. There was another similar thread recently, and I posted what we paid 3 years ago for a detatched dormer bungalow - it was in the region of 2k. As others say, do not fit new over the old. The old stuff needs to come off and you will want them to have a good look in there too - we had to get our wood in there treated to expel some water that had been spreading a little.
Another question though, ours is fitted against roughcast and isn't sealed at that point. Obviously rain can't get in because the fascia runs over to the wall which is roughcasted above where it meets too. We do occasionally get woodlice (well we call them slaters in scotland) coming in though in our eaves. I wonder if this could be the reason?0 -
recently had mine done (semi detached), and the job expanded to include retiling the roof (reusing existing tiles where poss, but new lats, felt etc) and i only paid 3k for the entire thing scaffolding included.0
