Your benefits may be reduced for a time unless you had a good reason for not attending. The first thing to do is ring them and explain why (eg illness) and arrange another interview. If your benefits are reduced you can appeal. Contact Carers U/k for where to get help if needed. http://www.carersuk.org/help-and-advice

You should tell them that you can't attend any meetings as you are caring for the person you are getting the allowance for. Ask them to provide a replacement for you while you are at the interview, not sure what purpose the interview would serve until you are ready to return to work, which is clearly not now.

The letter inviting you to attend under threat of possible reduction or loss of benefits is automated. If you phone them up they may reschedule or waive the interview if you are unable to attend or waive the interview as pointless if you are not planning to enter employment in the near future and do not want to go on any courses, etc.

In my experience the interview is merely a friendly chat, a formality, making you aware that the job centre is there to help you should you want to seek employment and making you aware of any help or educational courses available. They will not expect or require you to do anything. Then it is see you again in two years. It is more Tea and sympathy than anything else, with them and you rather clueless as to why on earth these interviews are mandatory, at least in theory, considering if you phone them they may waive it as pointless.

It should be pointed out that a Work Focused Interview is only compulsory if and only if the claimant is in receipt of 'Carer Premium' (income support) on top of his/her Carer's Allowance. If not then it is entirely voluntary.
