Unclaimed AVIVA shares

Options
My mum got a letter through saying she has unclaimed AVIVA shares. She can get this paid out by doing A/B/C (the usual - post, email, website etc).

So she follows the instruction & emails them. No response.

Anyone here received such a letter & got their money back?

It says "dear scrip dividend scheme participant"
    There's a shareholder reference number
An unclaimed payments total on a foldy bit of paper
It also states "computershare" at the top of this.

    Any wiser?

Well Aviva have scrapped the scrip dividened scheme for now.

    Computershare are Aviva's registrars.

So if your mum was a member of the scrip dividened scheme, she would have received new shares instead of a monetary amount when the dividends were paid out (May and November each year).

    Was the email address
    avivashares at computershare.co.uk ?

    It was indeed.

Are you saying then that this letter is bogus? And that she's not due any money?

I don't see why you're inferring that the letter is bogus. Computershare is Aviva's share registrar. Your letter is probably from Computershare rather than Aviva.

If you don't trust the letter check each company's website and use the contact details from the website rather than those on the letter.

    http://www.aviva.com/investor-relations/

    http://www.computershare.com/uk/Pages/default.aspx
The Computershare site is a little harder to navigate but you need to start at the Investor Centre.

Aviva used to be Norwich Union, so your mum may have acquired some shares when NU de-mutualised. I have never held Aviva shares so I can't offer any more detailed help.

Err, where am I inferring that the letter is bogus?!?

My virtue of the fact that I happened to guess the email address, probably indicates that this letter is genuine.

(I'll let you into a secret, I found the email address on the aviva dot com website.)

Good luck with getting this sorted.

You didn't. Nine_Lives appears to have inferred that the letter was bogus.

    Nope.

I was wondering what iFat was on about - nothing more, nothing less.

Just like i'm wondering how you get this money paid out, nothing more, nothing less.

Now you mention NU - she has had dealings with these before. I think my parents had shares with Northern Rock & Norwich Union, but i'm not sure if they cashed either in. I don't THINK they did. From memory this would be going back into the 90s. And before it's said - why don't i get confirmation, well i'm typing this now .... and my mum is asleep, so i'm not going to wake her for it :A

plunt - the letter says you can sort it via the website/email.
